Timing adjuster OR handheld tuner

lets just say i dont like to mess with tunes blah blah.
a handheld tuner such as the predator or Xcal2 will give some HP from adjusting the timing mainly , right? that increase might be around 7rwhp.

so since i dont like to mess with that wouldnt it just be easier to get the steeda timing adjuster and advance the timing using that instead , i will still gain around 7rwhp. Steeda claims its 10, but i say its more like 7rwhp. So anyways , i know there are alot of other features and options with the hand held tuner. but HP wise , wouldnt it be easier for me to just get the timing adjuster and get just about the same HP i can get from a tuner , since i dont like to mess with them!????

thank you

easier?

I think the tuner would be easier. Plug it in press a button and be done, plus if you want to remove it for sale of the car or to setup for a SC or something its much easier to undo. Messing with the crank pulley there is always a risk of snapping the bolt too, since its a torque to yield bolt unless you replace it each time. Hand held tuner you can also change the temp the fans come on, set your idle, change speedo for gear swap, turn of tc and alter air-fuel to squeak out a few more horsepower. They come with a ready to go performance program that you dont need to "mess with" you just load it and go. My vote is the tuner and I will be picking one up when I get some $

I got my predator hoping to add a few hp but after having it just a few months i have changed my cooling fan temps, checked codes, turned off my TC and just yesterday turned of my rear 02's for my new O/R Pro Chamber. I wasn't planning on modding my car at all but after awhile you kind of get the bug and that's when the tuner starts to pay off.

If you are going to stick with a couple of bolt ons and stock gears then do a t/a. If you might go supercharger, headwork, cams, gears, etc.etc.etc. you will be much better off getting an xcal2.

yes . i know. Its just that i dont have a dyno shop anywhere around. And people make me too scared of a mail tune. or the Xcal2's performance tune that comes with the tuner. they say it might run too lean. and with no dyno shop anywhere around. this might be a problem!!!?

I don't think you will have a problem with the off the shelf tuners running you lean.

now a custom tune will need to be verifed to be positive.

if you engine is stock it is not really a custom tune.

real easy question to answer here. If you need the extra functionality of the tunner get it. If not don't.

I mean turning of you traction control, rear 02's, gear changes, tires size changes, trouble codes, I belive the xcal 2 will even datalog. all this is cool if you use it. but just costs extra if you don't.

I would get the tuner. in hindsight I would have bought one early. I spend $40 on mil eliminators, $50 on a traction control memory chip so it says in what mode I left it. there is $90 towards a tuner right there. my tires are now a bit different than stock and I want to do gears. So I am going to need something. eventually. Timing ajuster just won't do all that.

yes i know that. i was thinking speedcal for tires and gears. Thats $99. timing adjuster for advancing timing . thats $139. thats about all i need . i mean all i want is the extra HP anyways.
