timing belt help

My wifes 93 2.3's timing belt broke the other day so I took it apart only to realize that I had no idea how to adjust the tensioner and the book calls for a special tool which I cant find. Also whats up with this timing sensor tool it calls for? Any help will be appreciated.

I hate dealin with the damn belt tensioner. I wish they woulda put something on there like the serpentine tensioner so you could rotate it out with a ratchet or something.
