Timing chain question.

My new comp cams timing chain has been installed. I lined it up dot to dot and checked it over 100 times.

My question is this: The camshaft has a small shaft that the timing chain slides on to and a bolt screws into to lock the timing chain to the cam. I noticed that when I slide the timing chain sprocket unto the cam it only goes in like halfway and the dowel pin also about halfway into the timing chain sprocket. I took my stock cam and stock timing chain and tested it and it shows the same thing, IMO this dowel pin would shear. Or am I just over analyzing the situation? BTW whats the torque spec on the camshaft/timing sprocket bolt?
