I am posting this for a friend of mine. He has a 92 gt all stock accept for a tremec trans. anyway, he had to replace his lower intake gasket due to leaking. he removed the distributor to get the lower out and when he was putting the dist back in the rotor would move slightly, (he marked the dist and the block along with the rotor so he new where it was to put back in) he couldnt get it to line up just right so he moved the oil pump shaft a bit to help lline the rotor up. Got it back in and all, car runs fine but he said he went to check his timing and it was in the middle of his timing pointer on the engine? wouldnt that mean his timing was way off? the car runs fine though, thats what has me stumped. He goes to school down in Del and i am in ny so i cant help him myself. any ideas??? thanks

Pull that plug out that interupts the computer signal right by the module, then set timing which should be at the top of the pointer where it says "time". Then replug it and your set. He might be a tooth off if it's out or range, easy fix.

Yea, stabbin the dizzy is a bit of a trick. You have to move the rotor back from where you want it and as the dizzy slides down ithe rotor moves clockwise. You just have to try it a few times. He's prob just a bit off and gave up. No biggie.

I'd just take the dizzy out and restab it with #1 at TDC and the pointer at 0.

as an aside, if he has clearance, he can rotate the dizzy - that corrects having stabbed it in 'one tooth off'. the only reason to restab is if the TFI or other components are interfering with getting the timing spot on.

good luck to him - good on ya for helping him out.

Good point Hissin, there is no such thing as "one tooth off". You can simply rotate the dizzy.
