got an 89 gt... equipped with many go fast goodies need to know where to set the timing i have it set by ear just so it will run and drive but wondering where to set it to get the most power out of it...

its got a trickflow stage 1 cam... its at 18 degrees now... cam card said between 17-18 total timing but i thought "total timing" was base timing with total advance so where do i start. please correct me if im wrong

At this point hook up all the wires, get out the timing light and start the engine. Set the timing where your car
runs best. Don't forget to disconnect the SPOUT jumper connector when you set the timing, and plug it back
in when you finish. Use 10-14 degrees unless you are running aluminum heads or a really wild cam.

you don't set total advance in an efi car..the computer takes care of that. You only need to set base idle...and 18 sound a little high.

I'd personally never set it by ear, as I want to know for sure that I'm maximized.

I run 15-16 degrees safely with no pinging on 87 octane
