ok i have asked this before... i adjusted my timing with a timing light... but don't know what its at... i dunno i think mines worn down i have no lines #'s etc.. i moved it a lil to advance it... there is three chalk lines and i guess where he had it was 10 degrees so i moved it a lil clockwise to advance it and seems to run better! first i moved it to much and caused smoke and stalling i guess detionation or whatever! anyone have any pictures so i can see how to know what my timing is at!

oh yeah, did you clean the balancer up and remark the lines at the timing marks you desire? That makes it a lot easier to know what you have it set at. One usually has to access the balancer from under the car and turn the motor over by hand till the timing marks are accessible.

Good luck.

pulled spout... loosen dist... have on #1 plug wire... there are three chalk lines that are real visible... i dont understand on how u get 10* or 14* there are no #'s or lines for u see where its at only thing i see that says anything is the timing maker on the balancer and it says TIMING i folled tims write up and just can't figure out how many * i am at

thanks... yeah no lines and # u can see maybe 2 lines very faint but no #'s to see where its at.... it must be worn out... looked at some on ebay.... are they easy to change?? and what should i get a 28oz or 50oz or does it matter???

Stock motor's (for your year) imbalance is 50 oz.

Some balancers have a bonded finish (like thick paint) on the outer ring and this has the timing info on it. WHen that coating starts to crack off, one can be left with a balancer which really shows no marks.
And if the balancer is on the outs (and the outer ring is oscillating), it can rub on surrounding metal (timing pointer, water pump on SN's, etc) and rub the marks or paint down.

They are not too hard to swap. If wanting a stockish replacement, I would go with a PP unit from LRS or something like a Pioneer Non-SFI unit.

Good luck.
