hey everyone, my friends gotta 87 Gt that he bought for cheap, not to bad shape but the distributors in a different position than ive seen on most 5.0s, the module is pretty much flat across not like right close to the rad hose neck on the intake. the car runs good, fires right up, but no power or torqe, gutless... When i see mustangs for sale thats the first thing i notice is the distributor position and have seen alot for sale like my friends 87. what is the deal with this and how can it be cured so his car bucks like a real mustang again?

I put a timing light on it already, tryed 10 went up from there, didnt do anything, for some reason it seems like its not even on intake or its not even firing on the right cylinder. would this mean that the timing chain could be streched and jumped a cogg?

The dizzy can be stabbed in however anyone wants. If I had room I could put it so the TFI wires went toward the firewall and I could still time the car.

Before messing with timing, I would want to ensure your balancer is in good shape. Otherwise, you might be using a bad reference point and making decisions based upon that (spun balancer).

But if the balancer is good and it is in time, it should be fine. You can restab the dizzy if you like to make the TFI sit more conventionally, but that is about all it will do.

Good luck.

I had the same problem with a 1989 mustang, it had a 1992 motor and a Crown Vic firing ordering on her. Start and ran fine but no power. Check the firing order sequence compared to the VIN on the engine. Maybe you have a different engine/distributor combination or the firing order is off.

I just tryed getting the codes and it came up as a 4 cylinder.. huh? is it possible that this car could have a 4 cylinder computer and is running the car but splitting the spark and fuel x 4 and that is why the car is so gutlass? The computer was laying on the floor when he bought it and there are no identification tags on it.
would the 4 banger computer run the car or is this a stupid question?
also what is the difference between DA1 and DB1 on the computer?

My car was running with a V6 taurus/sable speed density computer for 2+ years haha I dont no about the 4 banger computer though, How do u no its for a 4 banger? If u get 4 sweeps, beeps, flashes (depending how u read the codes) that means its a v8, maybe u just got this confused, thinking its a 4 banger cuz of the 4 flashes.
