Tire.com says 235-45-17 on a 17x9 inch rim..

When I go to order tires off of tire.com they recommend the 235-45-17 size for the 2003 17x9 cobra rims? I was thinking a 245-40-17 would work better.. Any reason why they would recommend the 235s? One would think they should know alot about tires since thats all they sell!

prolly cuz the 235-45 sidewall size matches up with the stock tire diameter.. therefor keeping ur speedo in check.. thats just my thoughts though

Do not put a 235 on a 9" wide wheel. I did it once and learned the hard way. The wheels were alittle wider than the tires, so on one particularly cold morning the tire pressure got real low and I didn't notice it untill I turned and the tire separated from the wheel. I would not use any smaller than a 245 on a 9" wheel.

Roger that it just seems weird that they recommend that on a 9 inch rim... I am now debating if I should go with a 245-45-17 or 245-40-17. Thanks for the help guys.

245/40 is too short.

The proper size for a 17x9 is a 275/40/17. You can run a 245/45/17 but the tire will be stretched out slightly to fit the rim.

245's fit stock 8inch wide rims pretty damn good.. on a 9inch rim i'd want a 275.

255 sounds nice but I have a hard time imagining a 255 tire on a 9 inch rim fit up front on a 88gt without major rubbing issues..

It won't, not on an '88.

Stick with 245/45/17's up front. A 235 is just too narrow to fit properly. You could go with a 245/40 but it might round the tire over by not having enough sidewall and look like ass.

Out back you might be able to squeeze a 275/40/17 depending on what brake setup you have.

I'm running on 245/45/17 all around. The front ones will rub slightly at full lock and I had to flip the quads in the rear.

Ive got 245/45/17 's on my 8.5" wheels and the tires seem like they are still to narrow for that wheel.

245/45/17 is the closet ur going to get to the stock tire size on a 17" wheels with a 245.

245/50 in front and 275/40 out back would look sick!!

I have 255/45/17s on my 17x9s and they fit good, but I would go no smaller than a 245 on a 9" wheel. BTW I have 255s on the front and they only rub alittle on full lock to lock turns.

Strange for them to say that or at least that sales rep. I have Cobra R's 17x8 (F) w/ 235/45's and 17x9 (R) w/ 255/45's and those are what TireRack recommended for to put on. Perfect fit.

88 fenders are too small... change to 91+ and save yourself some rubbing issues.
