Roush Tire problem

Well I finally got my new tires I went with the BFG TKW2 any way I took the pirelli off at half life because they suck but I wanted to keep them just because they were the original tires. So I told them not to damage them. So they called me and told me I could pick up my car they put the fronts on the rears will be in a couple of days so I pick up my car and the pirellis, I grab one of them and I see oh about a 10 inch tear in the side wall. yeah you could say I was pissed. So I asked them about it and they said they would order me a new pirelli to replace the one they tore so that made me feel better I guess. But yeah the new tires look awsome and I just hope they handle great. Thanks for all the help with finding the right tire.

I am not sure how they hold up yet they still have my car I have been waiting for them to come. They keep telling me they will be in tommorrow and they never do so I tell them to just keep the car so it can get done in the morning and so I dont have to leave work. So they said that was fine and they will keep my car inside at night. So I drive be last night about 2hr after closing and guess what my car is sitting out side all by it self yeah so I am a little heated. I think I am going to tell them to send the 285 back and get me the 330-30-18 I heard another guy had them with no problems so we will see.
 
i know what you mean about tires being good on the street but bad at the strip..

ive got dunlop sp9000 on the rear of mine, awesome lateral grip on the street and round tight bends, owever, low profile tires and these ones in particular do nothing but spin at the track... I'll probably get some drag radials for the track and something like the 555 drag radials, but low profile for the street.. as i only do like 4,ooo miles a year, they shouldnt do too badly

You really should of tried the BFG g force drag if you were worried about strait line traction. Probably 5 times the grip of any standard radial tire. I've seen guys in the 1.6's on the 18's at the track. And they are no slouch in handing.
Edge you will love the bfg's screw the crappy nittos.
BTW, in an 18 the BFG drags are $100 less per tire than the nittos.
 
hmmmmm... im meant to be picking up a set of new bfg drag radials, in 275/50/15 or weld drag lite 15x10's this weeknd, for around $550...

but are you saying the low profile bfg d/r 18's are good enough for say 600hp at the track ? and on the street ? if tey are, i might as well just buy them alone and not worry about changing wheels at the track

well i dont take my car that often to the track it mostly sits in my gagare and collects dust so I need the best dust collectors possible and i think i got them J/K any way I think i will be getting a set of those as well on some 16in wheels.

Lets be realistic, you drive a saleen. You want to look good on the street. You are'nt going to drive around on 15's, so have the best tire in the size you need for street driving.
I've got about 3000 miles on mine, they have about 1/2 life left on them.
My buddy ran 9.70 on a set of 17 inch boyds with bfg drags on them. With (believe it or not) a 1.4 60ft.
Before anyone calls BS, until recently he's held every radial tire record out there. Right down to his 7.90.

You probably could run .25 quicker on the smaller rim, maybe a little more, but at the cost of 2 sets of tires and rims it's really not worth it.
 
thisis true... i wouldnt be using the 15" on the street at all, i dont really like they way they look or feel round corners, having huge sidewalls on the road is soft but it doesnt feel as grippy in the rear !

I was thinking of either buying the 15s with the DR and using the same type of tires, but the right profile and in 18" on the street too...or.... just buying the low profile DRs for the 18's I have on there and not buying the 15s at all....

ultimately though, the 15s with the DRs will perform best at the track

Not the best thing to have taking turns on the street
 
there is such a variation of opinions on tires, everyone has their own preference, its real hard to choose....

well, i picked up my drag lights and 275/50/15 bfg drs a few hours ago, so all i gotta do now is bolt them on at the track..... the dunlops are good for t street, these are best for the track... everyone's a winner :)

I'm going to dissagree.
I use a 275/35/18. And they stick like glue even in the turns, it's a low profile tire, more like a cross between a road race tire and a drag radial.
Only draw back of the 18 is that you can't let much air out, because you'll be on the rim, lol. The sidewalls are still stiff, it's the tread that's soft.

A while back people were using 4 nitto drags on all corners for road racing. A low profile drag radial is a great handling tire, just don't expect to get too many laps from them.
It's when you get to 16 and smaller that handling starts to suffer.

well... i took it to the track yesterday... i was paking an extra 45hp since last time and these drag radials (to stay legal in my 'street class') and i shaved 1.1 seconds off my ET..

HAPPY is an understatement..

great track tires..

I'm running the BFGoodrich G-Force T/A KD's on my car and they hook up extremely well and with them I was able to win the autocross event at the Saleen show last year so cornering is excellent as well. Plus they run a little wider then most tires and look great to boot. Last month though I found out they are worse then useless in an inch of snow. Anyway, I'm pushing 400hp to the wheel with 3.73's and they work great.
