is a 315 alot more benefitial then a 275 , i know more contact patch but is a 17x10.5 rim going to weigh alot more and may not be as benefitial?

There has to be some math equation to figure that out, I myself do not know maybe one of the other guys will chime in.

The 315 with the 10.5 should have more road contact than the 275 and the added traction benifit will overcome the weight. As you reduce the tire pressure more tire comes in contact with the road.

I can't answer your question exactly, but my BEST EVER on a 16X7 wheel with a 245-50-16 nitto DR was a 1.70, but normally it was in the mid 1.7's. On my 17X10.5 wheels with 315-35-17 nitto DR's I managed a best ever of 1.66 60' and just about all my runs were in the 1.6's, so I'd say the tire contact area helped.
