tire width questions

I just got a set of 17x8 cobra r wheels, and I would like to put the new mt et street radials on them. unfortunately, the only 17" size they come in is P275/40R17. is a 275 too wide for a 8" wheel?

tried searching, but couldn't find any relevant matches

your rim is 8" at the bead its 9" wide lip to lip. 9" in mm is roughly 250mm so your tire will stick out 1/4" on both sides if using a 275 tire. 25mm is roughly 1", in my opinion i wouldnt use this Drag tire on that rim with 18-20 psi on race day the tread will not be in perfect contact with the pavement.

sorry your tire would stick out 1" on each side i typed that out a little to quick sorry! 9" is 225mm
