Instead of the regular Shelby dual stripes, I'm going to have the one fat stripe with two narrower ones on either side al la Titus Trans-Am car. I have had a heck of a time finding the dimensions for that stripe style, though. Does anyone know what they are or will I have to wing it myself based on photographs? Thanks.

The Titus stripe is similar to the supersnake stripe right?

I dont know what the Supersnake stripes look like .

Sorry I can't help out with the dimensions. Just wanted to ask if you're doing a total Titus Trans-Am clone? :nice:

I sure am. I'm going with white and black instead of the more memorable yellow/black. My rule with this car is it has to at least look period correct. Most of the parts are period correct, though :D. The roller 302 obviously isn't and niether is the Mcleod scattershield and the 351W I just picked up wont be either, but most people will be hard pressed to notice.

Here are the stripes I'm talking about:

EDIT: I searched and found pictures of Supersnakes and the stripes do look very similar, but they seem to vary from car-to car(Titus clones, I mean).

Don't feel bad, it is EXTREMELY rare, there was only one made, 427 tunnel-port for the highbanks :D

Here's one of the few photographs of it:

It does look mighty similar to the TA car, dunno about dupicate or not, maybe a little wider.

Well, if all else fails, I may have to take what I know based on photos and make some stripes out of masking tape intil it looks right. I swear, every TA and Supersnake clone picture I've seen has different stripes.
The TA cars likely got re-built repainted over the course of a season, and they probaly had more than one car to campaign too. These things were likely hand-painted at the time and varied from one week to another.

The Supersnake though is different. It was a test project by SA, there was only one made, it was driven and tested and a few photos were taken. I cannot recall what happened to it exactly, it was either rebuilt as a GT500 or crushed. So if you see any vintage photos of the SuperSnake then they should all look the same. But don't rely on Sanderson's Eleanwhores for accurate measurements.
:D

Very cool. Something I've been thinking about myself. Make sure to send lots of pics :D
Do you have much info on the Titus car yet? I'd love to see it if you do.

I asked the same question from a few places and here is the answer I got: Spacing and width are the same from front to back. Total width is 20". Center stripe is 10", outside stripes are 3" with 2" between stripes.

Thanks. Those seem to be the more common(and best looking) dimensions I see in the pictures I was able to dig up.

Thanks and you bet there will be pictures. I decided to shoot the colors myself too. We'll see how that goes. As for info, specs, etc on the original Titus cars, all I have to go on is a feature article that Mustang & Ford did in '99 on a clone build by Rick Titus. It has some good pictures and some specs, but nothing real detailed. This will be a restomod after all and that means some deviations here and there.

I'm sure that was the same car that was on the web a while ago. I had it bookmarked but it's gone now.
I'm most of the way through doing the same thing on an R model clone. It will be very close to the original, as raced in '65, but with minimum upgrades like a T5 trans, real fuel cell hidden inside an original looking tank and a cd player in the glove box.
Looking forward to seeing it's progress :nice:

I don;t know how authoritative this info is but I found it while searching for the real SS. The picture below may be it or it may be a copy.

There's a difference between the "new" GT500E Super Snake stripes, and the "original " 427 Super Snake stripes. The new look to be about 3", 1", 11", 1", 3". On the original Super Snake, the "gaps" are much wider, and the center stripe appears to be slightly narrower - like 3", 2", 10", 2", 3"....

I don't believe that Super Snake stripes had the taper like the conventional Lemans stripes, but they might look better with the taper.
