When we see the green thing go down the track, the timer stops. Up to that point, Earl's just making progress

My goal is to have it ready for the Sunday Round Up... Will kinda be ugly on the outside due to the two tone, but I gotta have a target...

Then I will definately get it to the track the first chance I get, however July is really, really booked for me...

Earl, lighten up on the workload, you have enough money. Take the thing to the track and let me know when you go.

Hey Gang:

It is home and running... KillrB and I got all the final wiring done in the engine bay, installed the fenderwell panels and got the hood on.... I then (with a little help of the wife) got the new carpet installed, and the rear seat into place... I still need to put the center consol in (any one have an extra e-brake gasket? Mine is a little worn.) and then drop the seats into it...

Drove it a couple times... Pulls hard when you give it 1/3 throttle while doing 50 mph... I have not had the guts yet to stomp on it from a stand still... There are still a few issues that I have to resolve such as an oil leak from my valve covers and the fact that when the motor torques, the driveline taps against the left muffler...

I'll keep you posted, but am looking at having it to the track in August....

IT LIVES!!!!

Sounds good, Earl.

I had to put a Moroso crankcase evacuation system on mine. It blew copious amounts of smoke and damaged the pan gaskets before the kit corrected the smoke issue. Be sure you floor it before you go to the track or the dyno.

John:

I am hoping that I don't have to put a evac system on it... Right now I have vents on both covers... I will have to see once I am confident that it isn't going to blow up on me... Right now, I'm just doing a little driving here and there to break in the motor...

Did you go with a full on evac system, or just a catch can?

The Moroso system includes two fittings, one for each exhaust side, two one-way valves that screw on the welded fittings, two special valve cover breathers. Additional expenses are two 5/8ths heater hoses to connect each side. All this provides a sealed system that allows the exhaust to pull-out the crankcase gases. It includes no pump, which would be the next step. It is a simple and effective system. I think you are going to need it, but maybe you can avoid it since you are EFI.

The system has been on all year. I don't know what the smoke is, at this point. I had several people tell me it was white or black. I have been running it rich, and with the hot weather, it is even more rich, but I don't know if that is the cause of the smoke.

It is crucial that they are placed in a low pressure point in the exhaust system, other wise it will not pull a vacuum. The better placement you have the more vacuum you will pull.

Your engine will last longer and make more power if you have a little vacuum in the crankcase rather than pressure.

How do you located a "low pressure point" in the exhaust system?

The instructions asked for the welded pipes to be at 20-30* (don't recall exact number) angle to the exhaust pipes. I had mine welded just past the headers. There weren't many options on location due to space. My system may be compromised when I run through the exhaust cut-outs since the opening is only a few inches from the Moroso fittings.

By following Bernoulli’s principal:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernoulli's_principle

While the angling the insert is important, to really get it right you want to place the insert in the low pressure region of a venturie:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venturi_effect

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Venturifixed2.PNG

It’s the exact same way your carb works

Collectors, y pipes, and x pipes all usually have a decent low pressure point in them somewhere (depending on their design). You just need to evaluate your specific exhaust system and find the best place to put it, and as John said, packaging can limit you.
