No, brakes went out on my beater and all i could do is drop the clutch in 1st to slow myself down enough to slip through traffic while running a red light.

The only real reason for "Rev Matching" is to match the engine speed with the transmission speed to avoid locking the drive wheels. I do rev match often when driving a car with a manual trans mainly from habit being it makes for a smoother engagement between the engine and trans. If you are good at rev matching you dont even need to use the clutch, not that I advise that. If you match the engine/trans speed exact the shifter will slide right into gear without the clutch, and this does absolutley no damage to anything. This can be helful if your clutch blows or the cable snaps etc...

Yup, had two cables in my teal 4 cyl go, one time had to drive 20+ miles with no clutch cable. Also have had it happen in friends cars. That is easy, downshifting is slightly harder than upshifting, and going from a stop is as well!

I downshift i've i'm just driving. Liek if i'm coming into a curve and want to slow down, i'll downshift, but rev-match and use the engine to slow me through the and then accelerate. Also, if i slow from 50MPH to 30MPH, i will drop from 3rd or 4th to 2nd with rev-matching.

But if i'm in 3rd gear and the light goes red in front of me, i just leave it in 3rd and start braking and kick the clutch in when the RPM's drop low enough.
