To spout or not to spout?!

I searched the threads for this topic but they do not relate to mine. First off I own a 95 GT w\393ci, trickflow stg 1 cam, 24lb inj, C&L 76mm air mass meter, etc. Is it safe to run the spout disconnected that aids in setting the timming? Also what is the Pro's and Con's? The reason I am asking is because I am not running an EGR system :nono: . I know but my BBK headers 351w version does not have the provisions. This motor came out of my 90 GT so the set up was different. Every time I set my timming the comuter makes the timming marks bounce around between 20-30 because there is EGR valve connected to aid in timming. Before I get my computer flashed is it safe  to have it out, how long, and what to set it at?

I am going to set it at 32 degrees :nice: as stated and see what I get. My 90 GT never expierence this problem with the EGR system eliminated. Thanks for the advice and if any more suggestions please submit.

I dont see any real issues with running locked out timing, other than the slight additional beating on the drivetrain and possible burps from the lack of adjustment for conditions.

As said, a lack of EGR can cause part throttle detonation (it is hit or miss with each car). The lack of inert gasses being introduced, but the additional timing and injector pulsewidth dialback allows the possible detonation.

When you do your chip, obviously just have them turn off the function.

Good luck.

YOu pull the spout to adjust the timing and pop it back in when your done. THen the cpu can fiddle/advance with it all it wants. I left my spout connecter out accidentally when adjusting timing before going to the track and lemme tell you my car went from running 13.4 @111 from last visit to 14.5@101. And I couldent figure out what was wrong for half the evening then I figured it out and bummed a paper clip from the track officials and shaved of 1.1 sec. in the quarter. Speaking of that...I lost that spout connecter and I'm still using that paper clip...Does anyone know where I can get a new one?

Half the Fords out there use a SPOUT connector. I would hit the junkyard or install wires and a switch for easy timing adjustments. Some guys drill a hole in the connector chip (that you lost) and put a ziptie or string through it, and tie it to something so it doesnt get lost.

Yella is talking about intentionally running locked out at 32*, not the 10-16* you probably ran at. Totally different animal. I ran as low as 24* (locked out)and it ran fine.

EGR is good

You just said it, your 90 GT, it's 94\95s that are really prone to pinging and my 95 pinged like crazy when I capped of EGR and didn't shut EGR off in the computer. I hooked up the Fox EGR when I did the Fox TB conversion and the pinging stopped completely even in the Texas heat. EGR is a good thing and shouldn't arbitrarily be deleted unless you've got a tuner.
