Hey guys...
I'll be ordering this kit in a couple weeks for my stock '91 LX (except for exhaust).

How is the clearance? Did you have to notch the pistons?

Which clutch are you driving with?
If you've had it dynoed, how much power are you putting out?

Is it still streetable?

I'd really appreciate any help guys!

No on notching pistons, king cobra clutch and very much streetable. Not dynoed yet going to track fri.......

Did you rebuild the stock short block?
Which pushrods did you get?

Are those the only pieces not included in the kit that I'll end up needing?

The trickflow kit includes pushrods I believe.

I had this combo before it was sold as a kit. In hot ass summer humidity I made 304hp/339tq with a cool down. I went 12.8 @ 107 shifting early. That was a 100k+ mile stock bottom. I ran a fms hd clutch.

I'm looking at the Trick Flow website, and I don't see anything about a "kit".

i also have that combo with a king cobra clutch. i give it an A++++++++++++.

dang..those 5.0s are strong....
That's the bind I'm in....130k miles and not sure whether I should rebuild.

Did you have to notch the pistons?

Check summit....they own trickflow AFAIK.

For less than $500 you can likely "backyard rebuild" your shortblock. Chances are you don't need an overbore. A clean up hone, an align hone and new bearings and rings on the parts you already have, along with a new oil pump, would freshen the engine.

Add the kit and off you go.

I've thought about the kit myself many times.

This kit is great, very streetable, no notching pistons, I did put a new shortblock, using cobra clutch. The kit does come with 6.7" pushrods but I would use an adjustable to confirm because I needed 6.75" rods..just FYI

The trackheat kit comes with upgraded springs in case you ever want to upgrade from the weeny stage 1 cam

Oh, the lifters aren't included.

at 130k miles i say just throw the kit on and worry about a rebuild later. these blocks see 200k miles and still go strong if properly maintained.

Hmm..that's what's very tempting...just buying the kit and slapping it on.

I am thinking about putting a vortech on it after the kit as well.
Not much boost...5-6 psi.

That's why I was thinking maybe doing a "minor" rebuild.

I must add...I won't be driving this car very often.
I have a DD.
It will see MAYBE 2-3k miles a year.

does your car burn oil or smoke at all? If not go for it. If it does rebuild for sure.

Mine is the latter

No haven't noticed it smoking.
My friend said it smelled wierd whenever I got on it, but I told him that's just rubber.

Haven't really kept up with the oil since I've only had it 2 months and I'm not driving it right now.
I'll be doing an oil change next week so I'll know for sure then.
It idles pretty smooth.
I had overheating problems but I solved those issues.

if you are running no cats thats prob what he smelling. might be running rich or lean. If your are burning oil then you would be putting in roughly a quart every 2k, or more. if you arent then slap that kit on and you'll be screwing.

Yup..no cats.

Once I finish installing the water pump and t-stat, I'll do the oil change and monitor the oil level for a while.

Hmm..I'm getting antsy about this kit....311 rwhp is no slouch!
Heck I'm already happy with the stock power....after switching from a 4-banger.(which actually isn't a slouch either..GTI)

It should put me in my seat pretty good.

Its a nice kit. I did not rebuild but I only have 120,000 miles. I run 5psi from a A-trim and made 393rwhp and 377 rwtq. I have the street heat intake. I also went with Ford Racing roller rockers as Trick Flows were on back order. the Cam is decent and the heads just plain rock. I am going to the track tomorrow to see what she will do. I still run the stock from 93'.
