Anyone konw the torque specs for a 302 intake mani.

I'm leaking through the rear of my intake mani and i want to see if it's just not torqued down enough or if i'm going to have it take the mani off and re-seal it.

Thanks, Joe

22-25 ft-lbs. Retorque all bolts in the usual pattern - starting in the center and moving outward, back and forth. You want the intake to snug down evenly.

You may even have to torque it 5-6 times before the gaskets settle. Look and see if the intake's squishing the end seals. If not then you can pull it and use thinner gaskets. Small block intake gaskets come in several different thicknesses from about .030 to about .090. (side gaskets, not the end seals).

22 ft/lbs is on the high end. edelbrock recommended 17-19 ft/lbs on intake bolts.

yeah i found a diagram on the web. When sealing the mani with rtv, do i put it around all the ports ontop of the gasket or do i do it on the block and seat the gasket to the rtv? I know where to put the rtv on the front and back of the motor but when i pulled my mani off the gasket stayed and there doesn't seem to be any rtv on the mani it's self.

How long should i let the rtv sit before i can test it. My gaskets seem kind of thick so i want to make sure that it wont leak and that i dont have to change my gaskets

RTV is not recommended where it can come into contact with gasoline. Using RTV can cause sealing issues down the line. I use Edelbrock Gaskacinch on the head and head surface of the gasket - just around the intake ports. RTV is good for sealing up the water passages. If you are using a Felpro 1250, it already has a seal around each intake port an the intake manifold side of the gasket. You don't need anything else there. So, Gaskacinch on the head side, nothing on the manifold side for the ports. Light RTV around the water ports.

D.Hearne makles a good point. You should tighten down the manifold using the proper sequence and do it in 4-5 steps. I start with 15 lbs and then go to the final setting. You will have to keep going through the sequence until all of the bolts are at the final torque setting. That will take 4-5 torque sequences.
