RTV is not recommended where it can come into contact with gasoline. Using RTV can cause sealing issues down the line. I use Edelbrock Gaskacinch on the head and head surface of the gasket - just around the intake ports. RTV is good for sealing up the water passages. If you are using a Felpro 1250, it already has a seal around each intake port an the intake manifold side of the gasket. You don't need anything else there. So, Gaskacinch on the head side, nothing on the manifold side for the ports. Light RTV around the water ports.
D.Hearne makles a good point. You should tighten down the manifold using the proper sequence and do it in 4-5 steps. I start with 15 lbs and then go to the final setting. You will have to keep going through the sequence until all of the bolts are at the final torque setting. That will take 4-5 torque sequences.
