torque these bolts.. you're kidding right?

I'm trying to put a set of JBA headers on the Cobra and the instructions say to torque to 23ft/lbs.

bulls#$t. So far, I'm only able to get a socket around one bolt.

How is one supposed to do this?

I have three sizes of bolt heads and I can't get a socket on any of them.

Thanks!

I went through the same thing when i installed my headers. It was impossible to torque them suckers! I just tightened as much as i could and kept checking them every so often making sure they didn't back out. No leaks yet :D .

Yeah, that is the same thing with my upper intake, trying to tighten the nuts at the back/front is impossible without grinding down a perfectly good socket. So I just tightened them until they were flush, then about 1/4 turn past that. That should equate to 25 ft.lbs.

Get some new header bolts while you are at it. Trust me, you don't want to go through the pain of installing/tightening those any more times than you have to.

I got some Breslin 1" locking bolts, and no issues since.

I used some allen head bolts from Lowes. I think they were grade 8 but I can't remember for sure. The allen heads were still a pain in the butt, but they were easier than using a socket or an open end wrench.

UPDATE: Late Evening

Okay, it turns out JBA has shipped me the 1 5/8" headers verses the 1 1/2". It wasn't until we grinded out a few holes for fitting on the Trick Flow heads when I noticed they just looked bigger?!? I went back and looked at the packing slip and the part number translates back to the 1 5/8" version. We got them on the car and there was one or two bolts that were a little stubborn going in, but no big deal.

My main concern is..

Why would they make 1 5/8" and 1 1/2" versions and more importantly, what affect is this going to have on the motor?

Make sure your re-tighten the bolts in a day or two. You can get special thin wall socket or use a crows foot on the torque wrench. If you don't keep the bolts tight they will leak and you will have to replace the gasket. I use stage 8's on mine and they don't back out.

I know this thread is old ...... but in searching, this question came up.

I'm ordering those Breslin's. Will 0.75" work? Or do I have to get the 1" ones?
