Ok guys, first time to the track with the Cobra. Ran a 9.057 @79.49 in the 1/8 w/ a 2.13 60'. What yall think? I wasn't power shifting.( I let off the gas when I shift). Still feel I can improve my 60' and my shifting. I never really shift hard when I'm around town so I gotta kinda work on it.

That's about what I ran last time I took my stock GT to the track (powershifting) so there's some room for improvement.

Not bad at all for an IRS on a first time out though. :nice:

I'm trapping almost 80 in the 1/8th so I'm sure I'll trap higher than 100 in the 1/4.
it also bothers me that GT's are running better than me in the 1/8th. Can I really improve my times that much?? I feel that I'm driving pretty good. Any GT that I run on the street I beat easily. Whats the problem

For comparisons sake, here's a copy of my best run ever. Put my father's best run next to it. You can see my mods in my sig. My father has a bone stock 97 Cobra

99 GT ---------- 97 Cobra

R/T --- 0.661 --- 0.748
60' --- 2.188 --- 2.201
1/8 --- 9.015 --- 9.015
MPH --- 80.49 --- 81.63
1/4 --- 13.977 --- 13.893
MPH --- 101.9 --- 104.19

To me, this comparison clearly shows a GT has more low end torque than a Cobra (even a 99-01), which explains why these cars are basically even at the 1/8. The higher trap speeds indicate a lot more horsepower though. Conclusion, you need a gear to reach that 5000+ RPM powerband faster :D

So what do you run now??

I ran a 1.78 60' and a 13.3 @ 101.......in my 90 talon. I havent had a chance to take the cobra to the track. Its going to get interesting going from AWD to RWD at the track. How well do these drivetrains hold up at the track? Im a little gun shy because I was breaking stuff all the time in the talon.

~your 98 should be good on the drag with the live axle. you can get a good launch at 3500. you dont have to worry about the IRS(wheelhop)/or braking the halfshaft.
~i ran my tires at 20psi.nothing lower.
~i havet been to the track lately.its all about practice.get use to your car. and what it can do at diff RPM launches. gotta work with the IRS.if it starts to wheel hop real bad LEFT OFF.best bet is to go with the LIVE AXLE if your at the strip alot.

~feather that clutch out there~ :nice:

With your mods and being as it was your first time at the track, that was a decent run. The GT's are quicker of the line, but you will walk them easily in the 1/4. Defintely get some gears though, at least 4.10's, trust me it is like a different car. By the way, I ran a 13.8 @ 104 in my first 1/4, and that was with ridiculous wheel hop. Can't wait to run again with the differential bushings installed!

I have a cobra with irs, and I found that just simply switching to a wider and better tire made a huge difference with traction and axle hop off the line. I have bfg kdw's 275/40/17. If you know how to properly ease of the clutch and give it gas progressively. No need to really launch the car if you can slip the clutch just right.
