I have an 01 Gt and I believe that the 2nd and 3rd gear synchros are goin bad.Would it be cheaper for me to have it reapaired or replace the whole thing. If I did replace the tranny what others will work in my car,I have the Tremec 3650 now and I dont race, and its still basically stock. And what are some good online sites for trannys.I have knowledge of cars and most of time do my own work but I have never torn into a tranny before,is this something that I shouldnt even look into,I mean trying to do the rebiuld myself.

I got a rebuilt for Smart Parts Automotive. Here are some places that sell a replacemnt:

http://www.ddperformance.com
http://www.smartpartsauto.com/manual_transmissions_mustang_tr3650_4014.htm
http://www.promotionpowertrain.com/1231590.html

You can also upgrade to a T-56 for a couple more hundred $$.

If your willing to fix it yoruself, here's the service manual:

At first, I bought a used on off ebay first (for $400), but after I had it put in, it was bad and I wasted $300 the shop charged me. While the car was at the shop, I got one from Smart Parts.

The TR-3650 feels like brand new from Smart Parts Auto. Not any problems for the last 2 months. It comes w/ a 6 month warentee.

Smart parts Auto sells them on ebay for $995 + $200 for shipping/return core.

If I didn't get ripped on the bad one and plan it out better. I'd see if Smart Parts would swap out a TR-3650 for a T-56 for a couple extra $$$. Get the T-56 upgrade kit:

03/04 Cobra Transmission Crossmember (~$100new)
03/04 Cobra Driveshaft (~$350new)
03/04 Cobra Rear Pinion Flange (~$45new)
03/04 Cobra Shifter Base ($25-$160)

Thx again for giving me some more info,I also just relized that im only about 2 1/2 hours away from them so I could just pick it up myself.plus I have no problems being able to install it myself so no need to pay someone to do it.So thats about $200 savings on just shipping.Wish this would have happened when I installed the new clutch last year...damn throw-out bearing.Wish I could have caught the TSB on the synchros that was sent out while I still had the warranty, dealer told me that it would have been a no charge repair on the tranny..just my luck.Thx again.
