Well the story goes I have a 06 Mustang GT completely stock and I just recently put on a Whipple Gen 2 S/C H.O. intercooler running a 3.725 pulley. My question is I've been doing my homework and I've learned that the stock bottom end is not as strong as I realized but I've also learned the auto isn't as well. My questions should I upgrade my block? or upgrade my tranny?

Thanks guys

How is the car running?

Mine's a 5-speed and I'm currently doing a TR6060 6-speed swap along with clutch(Mcleod Street Twin), brake (Baer 6P), suspension (Steeda/Tokico D-spec), gear (3.73) and trac-loc (GT500) upgrades. Forged stroker, heads, cams, headers, TB, and blower drive/pulley are next on the list.

She runs well, very well actually. I still need to get her to a dyno'd, I'm running the tune Ford sent me right now but I haven't abused the car at all yet. I'll get it properly tuned and the gauges correctly installed soon here.

Sounds like your doing alot more work to your car as well. How much is the tranny swamp costing ya if ya don't mind me asking?

The swap kit is about $4000 USD which includes the tranny, short throw shifter, crossmember, and a 1-piece aluminum drive shaft. I have to pay 20% exchange rate (Canadian dollar) plus transport plus brokerage fees to get it across the border. I think it works out to about $5600 CAD sitting on my driveway.

Ouch thats quite a bit... you doing it yourself btw? I don't think I'm quite capable of installing it myself so I'd have to get a shop to do it...so that'd add what...1000...2000 more? Is this also a complete kit also?

Well basically I'm sitting happy at the rate of power I'm at right now. I just want to be safe and make sure nothing fails me or goes "BOOM!" ha ha.

The tranny, crossmember, shifter, and driveshaft are a kit. I do all my own installs except for the rear gears. I'm not sure what someone would charge you for the swap as you'd also need the clutch pedal, clutch, flywheel, slave cylinder etc.

If I were you I'd save up for a built auto trans and just enjoy the power you've got for now. With a 3.725 pulley, your block should be reasonably safe if you're not beating on it all the time.

Yeah might cost me quite a bit more to switch for a manual. Should I stick with an auto?...manual would be lots of fun though ha ha.

Well I'm not beating on it thankfully. Also do you think I should go with a smaller pulley? and get a custom dyno tune? I'm kind of curious what the horse I'm getting out with the 3.725 pulley....think I can go with a tad smaller pulley like 3.6? or 3.5?....just curious thats all.

Your engine would be fine with a 3.500 with a good tune but I'd be worried about the tranny. My buddy broke his and it was a major PITA to get his car back on the road.

Do you have your boost gauge hooked up yet? If so, what boost are you making at wide open throttle (WOT)?

Do you have an iTouch? There are several (inexpensive) apps available for the iTouch/iPhone that use the built in accelerometers to estimate torque and horsepower given the vehicle's weight and data gathered during a WOT run (best on a drag strip but a short run up to the speed limit (of course) on a quiet road will do).

Being an auto, you'll lose a little more HP in the driveline than a manual car. If you know the boost, we can guess reasonably closely.

So just out of curiosity, where do i go to get a smaller pulley size? I would like a tad smaller then the 3.725 like the 3.5 you have or like a 3.555 or 3.6 ha ha.
