I have a '96 GT and it won't shift past 40 mph. Had it rebuilt and it was fine for a while before it stopped shifting again. I was told by the guy who supposedly rebuilt my transmission that this was happening bc the radiator probably wasn't cooling the fluid and if the transmission got to hot, it wouldn't shift. I need to know if I should spring for a new radiator or send it to another shop and have the transmission rebuilt. Any help guys?

king burna,

Sounds a bit fishy. A rebuilt trans ought to shift like a new trans or else there is a problem.

Maybe the valve body is loose and fluid is leaking where it shouldn't and causing a low pressure issue. Maybe the electrical connections are not fully seated. Maybe a solenoid is faulty. Maybe the OD band is not properly engaged. The list goes on.

Can you datalog? If so, datalog and show him what the temperature is and what the transmission is being commanded to do by the computer and what the trans is actually doing.

If you need a better rebuilder, call Darrin at bc-automotive.com. You will not be disappointed and his prices are like getting a family discount.

Last thing, take a look at "Transmissions 101" in the Tech Articles/Transmissions section of TCCoA.com. Excellent articles by Jerry Wroblewski, the man who knows a thing or two about the 4R70W transmission.

HTH,

Chris
