I just got my new Tremec TKO bolted up. The problem is the top of the transmission almost contacts the tunnel. There is maybe a 1/16 of an inch clearance. This seems like it is too close? See pic https://home.comcast.net/~perkin50/trans1.JPG

I installed new urethane crossmember busings, and a new urethane transmission mount. I also installed the hanger plate that is for the h-pipe.

The 3550/TKO transmissions are substantially larger than the T-5 they replace, so it's not uncommon to have to clearance the tunnel a little in areas. Nothing a BFH and a block of wood can't fix, IMO.

The shifter will sit quite a bit further to the passenger side. Dont worry its normal.

Mine has more clearance than that. That one seems a bit tight. What kind of motor mounts do you Have? Did you end up with the right trans bushing? What brand is it?

Neither the trans nor trans tunnel were designed to originally fit in this particular combo, so you may in fact need to BFH it slightly.

How are your engine mounts?

I have Pioneer convertable motor mounts so the motor does sit a little lower. The busings and motor mount are Energy Suspension.

I was considering removing the exhaust hanger plate to gain some clearance, but I want to be careful not to change the driveshaft angle???

I guess it is either remove the plate or BFH the tunnel? Do you guys have any other ideas?

My TKO600 required slight modification to the stock crossmember. A shop did the work so I'm not sure what had to be done.

Im not using the hangar mount. Its like less than 1/2" thick, shouldnt be a problem.

Mine has more clearance too... I am using the stock trans mount for now but mine seems to be a bit shorter than yours if memory serves me right. I am also using an HPM crossmember so that might have something to do with it too. I am also running the exhaust hanger too which won't effect the height that significantly. Do you have the stock mount. Compare the two if you do.

I checked the new mount compared to the old mount and the are within a 1/16 of an inch of each other.
