Hey folks, I am thinking about getting a Steeda Tri Ax Shifter for my car. Will I still be able to use the factory leather boot that is on the stock shifter? If not, what covers the shaft, if anything? Will I still be able to use my Bullitt Shift Knob that I like so much? How much does it shorten the shift pattern? Will it help fix the 2nd - 3rd high RPM grind that I get sometimes, It seems that it doesn't want to go into 3rd as easy as it once did. I have but 10K on the car. And lastly, is it a pain in the ass to install? Sorry for all the questions, but we all know TR3650 sucks and I am tired of its poor performance. Thanks.

All your parts will work. Give it about an hour, three swear words, and only one scrapped knuckle. Make sure you have the correct tools (the instructions tell you).

The install is really simple. Yes like go Hoto said, your boot and knob will still work.

Yes, I agree, all your existing parts will work. Even the factory rubber boot can be placed back over it (to help reduce noise) although the instructions say you can discard it. It will take a little effort to get it back on, but it will fit. As for the 2-3 grind at high RPM... I've had mine at 3,600 from 2-3 and it has not done it yet. Mine has also been on for a few months now, and I love it.

great choice in shifters! its a great one. the 2-3 shift is flawless now (for me at least) , and now i can bang through the gears with confidence. the install took me a little over 2 hours b/c it was the first thing i ever installed on any car. ever. so i definitly wanted to take my time. the only advice i can give is this: MAKE SURE YOU SET YOUR STOP BOLTS CORRECTLY AND TIGHTEN THEM FULLY!!!! the day after the install, the bottom screw came loose, and i coulnt use 2nd, 4th, or reverse the whole drive home from work. it was scary to say the least. the only thing i would change is the shift boot. it still works fine w/ the tri-ax, but since the steeda product is so much shorter, the boot kinda bunches up. ive been looking for a boot replacement, but to no avail. anyways, enjoy your better shifts.

Why do so many people put two p's in scraped?
Anyway, good choice on shifter, I went with the pro5.0, but they are both great improvements over stock.I dorve a friend's stang the other day with the stock shifter and it sucked.
