so im looking to upgrade my stock 302, im thinking of going with the trickflow track heat engine kit with a s-trim blower. What are your thoughts on this set up? would it make good power? this car is going to be a street/strip car and see the track maybe once every other month in the summer/fall. Im thinking of this

trickflow top end kit(2200)
msd 6al(200)
msd btm(150)
walboro 255lph(100)
80mm mass with 42lbs injectors (used 300)
s-trim blower(used 1600)
electric water pump and fan (300)
long tubes with dumps (300)
75mm throttle body (200)
stage 3 clutch(400)

what do ya think? could it make about 500whp?

Nice looking combo!

I don't think you will see 500rwhp with the stock 8psi pulley combo.

You will see a good streetable car with nice power though

If you can swing it, you can do it!

My combo is in my sig...you're talking about putting on MUCH better flowing induction, so my bet is, when properly tuned, you'll be able to pull in the 400-420rwhp range...but 30+hp is only a pulley change away

You might wanna shop around for some of that other stuff...I saw you have an MSD 6AL there for $200...they're a little more than that...your factory computer already has a 6250 rev limit, unless you're looking to make it slightly lower, it's almost a waste of money to drop the extra $60 for the AL box. But, you could also go with a Mallory Hyfire VI-AL-same as the MSD, but cheaper, higher spark energy, no need for the rpm pills, and just as easy to hook up...for less than $200. The BTM box also runs $200 unless you find one used (I see them go on eBay all the time for $75). Honestly, unless you've got the hook up, you're gonna have a hard time finding an 80mm MAF and 42lb injectors for $300...

It would definitely be a killer combo, but IMO, you really should start checking the prices a little more accurately. Also, don't forget about the nitnoid stuff that tends to murder your wallet. The last minute gaskets that you may've messed up on install, the adjustable FPR, all the gasket sealants, oil, coolant, etc. For every engine build, or major mod I've participated in for the last 3 years, I've noticed that there's been at least $200 worth of nickel and dime crap that we collectively overlooked or at bare minimum neglected to account for...the devils' in the details, bro-trust me.

At any rate, don't let my rantings dissuade you in any way-press on with making your 'stang into a fire breathing beast-just keep in mind that there's at least a couple of c-notes waiting to disappear out of your wallet when you're not looking, not to mention all the other parts aft of your newly acquired power that are now prone to breakage (unless you were smarter than a great portion of us who decided to shell out their t-loc, tranny, axle bushings, torq boxes, etc.)

Have fun with your build bro!

One more thing to think about...500rwhp is enough to get you into the high to mid 10's with good suspension, chassis and a good pilot...

thanks for the reply, yeah i know my prices are off a bit give or take, im gonna buy most of my stuff used minus the trickflow kit. I wanna see 500whp, its pretty much my goal and the number i have in my head, prolly wont do it with the stock pulley set up on the s-trim so ill have to play around with it. Im slowly piecing this car together and iv actually got 7500 to blow on it, but im budgeting for 7000 so i got an extra 500 for little things. The car has a 6 point cage, fiberglass hood, fiberglass hatch with lexan window, weld draglites, subframe connectors, rci race buckets, and eibach drag springs.

I have a similar set-up. Mine made about 425rwhp, un-tuned. I think it has a little more in it, but I need a good dyno tune and custom chip. Don't forget to factor that into your expenses. A good tune is a must if you want it to last. I'm getting by for now by pulling out a lot of timing. Also, that T5 won't last long at all with that combo, especially if you race it. I broke my T5-Z on the street with street tires. I then upgraded to a TKO 600. You might want to keep the rwhp somewhere below 500 if you want it to last. Otherwise you run a serious risk of splitting your block.

I have the trick flow street heat top end kit and the S-trim blower, and I am running the pulleys that came with the kit. (6.87" Crank - 3.33 S/C) I have an AFM Power Pipe and see about 10 PSI of boost out of it. I dynoed aobut 465 rwhp in that form.
Then I strapped a Snow meth injection kit on it, and made 497 rwhp. I could have easily added a little more timing to break 500, but I just left it there.

Aliate - Are you replacing the bottomend before the Ysi? If not I hope you don't damage anything when it cracks...yikes.

Im just gonna try to keep it at 12 or 14lbs, gonna run a girdle so when it does split, hopefully it doesnt damage the heads. Im buying a DD tomorrow so Im not worried about it anymore, the stang is being retired from DD duty after 4 years and my first car, from bone stock until now.

yeah man I had a DD last winter but it had no heat and stuff so I destroyed which I really shouldnt have because I got stuck a lot of times in the past month, about 4 times, because of stupid stuff breaking like my balancer, steering rack etc. So this one has heat etc. its a little automatic neon, it will be nice not to have to drive the stang to the mall every day (where i work) and worry about someone hitting it or something.

Not to hijack the thread but i have a question for aliate. Why dont you just put a t-trim on it and save some cash? The ys-i is a huge blower and from what i understand, it really doesnt start making more power than the t-trim until about 20psi of boost, unless you are planning on breaking your stock block and putting dart in it and unleashing the y-trim.

Corey, that sounds like a great combo. I saw that you were installing the 255lph pump, but you should also run an inline pump also to keep your fuel needs supplied. The vortech kit should come with one, you dont want to go lean under boost.

yeah im hoping the vortech kit comes with the t-rex inline. Im getting anxious to start this build as alot of the ricers are comming out now as the weather gets nicer (im a ricer also btw, my daily is a 2000 civic hatch with a built h22 in it, not riced out at all but she sure moves)
