Trying to change out clutch cable...

...and I'm not having much success except geting coated from head to toe in grease and grime.

I have a POS BBK adjustable cable in there now, and I've spent the last hour trying to get it off the fork. I can barely see the end on the quadrant...I'm sure that will take even longer...nevermind getting the new one on it...

Any tips?

I've been under there an hour and all I've done is get dirty and messed up my shoulder..

If you've got a fire wall adjuster, screw it all the way in towards the firewall to give you the most cable slack.

If not, adjust your cable at the bell housing so that you have the most slack.
 
Thanks. I finally got it figured. I had to take the adjusting nut all the way off at the clutch fork to remove the cable...then that little c-clip holidng the cable into the tranny threw me for a loop.

I've got the old one out now..installing the fiore and the new OEM cable...
 
Well, I'm at a stand still now...

I have the new cable in...as well as the Fiore. I have the fiore adjusted all the way into the firewall..and I have the cable hooked on the quad...

However...I just can't seem to pry enough on the fork to get the other end on...

Of course, I don't have a real prybar...

What quad do you have? An OEM cable would not work with my old SVO quadrant, for example (but a Ford adjustable cable did).

Man...I'm so screwed. This has taken me all day and I can't get it on at the fork. I figured out how to pry the fork almost all the way to one side..but the cable still won't get there.

I'm using a BBK quadrant that came with the adjustable cable..

If the Fiore is adjusted all the way to the firewall, I should be able to get it on the fork fairly easy no?

Twice I got the end on at the fork, only to find out it came off at the quadrant...

I have to go to work tomorrow...I have no idea WTF to do..I thought clutch cables were a relatively easy job?? I'm on 7 hours now..
 
might be easier to put it on the fork 1st. when your trying to get it on the quadrant, u will be able to pull up on the pedal to help u. Plus it will have a harder time coming off the fork during install
 
I thought about that...but I can barely get my hands up there...I have no idea how'd I'd get any leverage to hook it on the quad..

It's almost like the cable is too short? I got the FORD OEM cable that comes with a clutch fork...and I removed the rubber grommet.

No offense...I've been trying to do that ALL DAY. The way it is now..even if I did get the cable hooked on at the fork...it would be disengaged all the time.
 
Yes, it looks like that quadrant had the hook too far for a stock cable. I have the UPR triple hook and I use it on the middle hook with my firewall adjuster. See the other quadrants UPR has with their firewall adjuster on their website and you will see they are smaller than yours.

FWIW, with mine, I can hook it up pretty easily using a large screwdriver with the FW Adjuster all the way in.
 
Yeah..that's kinda what I figured. Since I need this going now, I may put the BBK cable back in, and use the Fiore to adjust it until I figure out what I need to get use the new OEM cable.

I should be able to use the BBK with the Fiore I would assume. I took off the grommet and cleaned up the little tabs, so I'll try and put that back in tomorrow.

What a nightmare!

I appreciate everyone's help though! So, if I need a new quad...what should I get? I won't order from UPR..so what are my choices? How's the FRPP double hook? How about the Steeda or Fiore?

Well, I ordered a FRPP double hook quadrant...it claims to work with the OEM cable and a firewall adjuster..

I think it's a case of the old BBK quadrant not working with the shorter OEM cable...similar to Hissin's problem.

Oh no, good suggestion. I figured something was up when I had the FWA all the way "loose", and I could barely get the fork end to touch the fork without leveraging the clutch fork almost fully through it's travel...definately not right.

It's my own fault...I shouldn't have assumed that 8+ year old BBK quad would work with the Fiore and OEM cable...

Oh well, live and learn. :)

I think after today, I'll pull my seat before I try and switch quads...
