guys ive been trying to get the weight of my car down over the years without comprimising cofort of looks too much

i have no a/c, no heat, no spare or jack, gutted trunk of all plastic, rear seat delete. i had a 15lb. battery but that died and had to go back to stock, and i just got aluminum d/s put in. im going to get racing seats.

i was going to do a k member but dont like what i hear about ins. companies not paying if the car is totaled and they fing tubular k.

anyway, point is i have some weight taken out. im NOT looking for other ways to drop weight but i want to add as little as possible.

im still getting a blower, intercooler, intake, subframes. ALL OF THAT ADDS WEIGHT. so ill be heavier then when i started. any way you can think of to do those mods and add as little weight as possible.

only thing i could think of is snow kit instead of intercooler. but i dont even know if that will save weight. also the bullitt intake might be lighter then the p-51.

any ideas???

Well I'm no expert but I'm thinking there is probably no way "light" way to supercharge your car, but with the power you gain, I don't think you're going to care. To be honest, I think it might be a good idea to put the spare and jack back in. Our cars' weight problem is more about weight DISTRIBUTION. Too much weight up front. I don't really think reducion weight in the rear is always a good idea. I would probably be more worried about evening out the weight as close to 50/50 as possible (ofcourse, 50/50 is impossible). Just my 2 cents. You might consider buying ANOTHER hood, the lightest hood you can get your hands on....carbon fiber maybe.

I think that with the amount of power you will gain with the blower it will superseed any real issue of wieght. The little wieght you will gain vs the power gain is worth it. You will boost you power to wieght ratio in a positive way.

hey if anyone could post up a sight for the carbon fiber trunk lids that would be great, as i might be changing the looks of my stang way down the road.

wanted the aluminum block but decided against it because of all the other parts needed to make it work. the built block and blower thing adds up real fast.

10,000 bucks all said and done that includes labor. that is for the normal block with built internals. once you start adding on ll the things u really want the price goes up from there.

i always wanted my stang to be a step ahead of most others and all along i bought only the best quality parts and the ones that i thought add the most power. however, with these upgrades its just too expensive. i will happy to get the engine and blower on one day. i guess i will just have to settle.

you guys are right there is no real way to keep the weight off a blower stang. i just thought there might be somthing i wasnt think of that you might know. thanks anyway guys. yea atleast im dropping some weight.

i already got a lighter hood, but i know there are lighter ones.

Now if this car isnt a DD, I wouldnt worry about insurance...or safety really.

Get racing seats (-50sih)
Tubular K member/A arms (-55)
15 inch prostarts all around with nice tires (-50+)
Remove front bumper support and foam (-20ish)
remove rear bumper support (-20ish)
remove side impact beams in doors (-40)

i would leave those on cause after seeing spreadman's car i would leave those in no matter what

You speak the truth. That was scary.

As far as all the weight reduction though, every 100lb's is good for 1/10th in the 1/4 mile. Thats the general rule of thumb. Add up the weight of all the stuff you have pulled and see if its worth the gain to you. If so, keep stripping it down. If not, stop while you still can...

weight reduction on the wheels will be the best way to cut down your ET. doesnt it go somethin like this
10lbs rotating mass = 1/10 in the quarter
100lbs sprung mass = 1/10

So getting lightweight wheels (as hotmustang said) would be a great way to reduce unsprung weight without sacrificing looks/comfort

Yes, lighter wheels, although $$$$.
Aluminum block, flywheel, and driveshaft. Racing seats and a T5 for a Trans. CF hood and trunk. You already have the rear seat delete.
I wouldn't do much more than that.. But I'm a :taco::P.

Oh yeah.. light control arms and a strong tubular K, not always the lightest.
And how much do you weigh?.. Maybe shed a couple pounds on yourself.. haha

okay my .02 on wieght if you going to boost is why? spend money on traction instead of weight reduction.

I mean if you want to drop weight.

1. k-memeber
2. coilovers
3. forged wheels (smallest diameter that will fit
3. interior and truck deletes
4. lighter body panels?

you start adding up the cost of all this and you could have a blower and a forged shortblock cheaper than the weight reduction and the blower.

with 500-600hp you just don't need that much wieght redduction you just need traction.

^Im not so sure about that. Iv seen beetles run low 11s and pull the front wheels with some kind of slicks that were about 5 inchs wide. Look at bikes...9.90s and 0 traction problems.

Less overall weight = easier for the tires to push car.

those beetles are something else it looks crazy seeing them pull the front wheels but soem do run wheelie bars
