Dag,
You know, i agree with alot of what you post, educated and informative. But in this instance, i however disagree. You don't need to have installed a turbo or have one to know that they don't make the best street cars, and if you are tough on a car, it's certainly not the way to go.
Maybe in the long run, they make more power, and definitely have a higher coolness factor, but that doesn't always translate into a great DD.

And Tx2000, you haven't mentioned any budget here, but a 331 dart, with h/c/i and a turbo kit is going to cost you well over 10,000 dollars. In fact the only way you could probably keep the engine cost below 15,000 is by building the turbo setup yourself like millhouse.

Car likely won't have a trouble cracking 600rwhp either.

One thing people seem to forget is there have been many…many oem vehicles which cam stock with turbo's. The problem with aftermarket turbo's has been the lack of knowledge on how to tune them. Over the past few years the popularity has grown to the point where tuners could no longer ignore the demands the turbo kit's placed on custom tunes. The technology now has grown to the point where there is no longer tuning issues incorporated with aftermarket turbo's. Yes…in this instance you can have your cake and eat it too!

On a side note…people also seem to forget that supercharges place quite a large strain on the crank. This in my mind was a HUGE determining factor in going turbo's (along with the coolness factor) . Turbo's should (and I say should) allow you to run a bit more h/p…more safely. They should allows help with engine longevity compared to superchargers…not that it matters.

I agree with most of what has been mentioned, Turbo or a blower built right with a dart will be a very reliable street car, I feel that your reliability lies in your tune.

The thing that i agree 100% with is 2000XP8's coment on the cost, your not going to be able to build a reliable dart based car w/fuel system and drivetrain for under 15k, unless you buy someone else's project.

You have to pay to play no matter how your shoving the air in the engine.

when i baught my car it was a 347 N/A solid cam/lifter engine and it ran very low 11's with right around 400 hp at the wheels, and was very very streetable.

My budy has a twin turbo GT. Low 9'3 in the quater.
Here is his dilema.

1. can not register it for emissions testing. He has now illegally registered it out of town.
2. As a daily driver he is constantly worried about it getting stolen. Huge investment!
3. Several close calls on people running red lights and such.
4. Insurance company will not insure his after market performance parts.
5. Roll-cage is always fun getting in and out of with groceries.
6. Every fart-can import on the road sees the cage or hears the turbos and wants a go. Can not escape the red-light challenges.

I personally would go the TT route. However, it would not be my daily driver.

I really don't have a choice for this being my daily driver...I just wanted some spice in the old gal . As for the FI route, I'd be building this over time, not all at once. I'll probably drive the engine till it blows, then rebuild. That way I'll be out of college, and working for something. I just asked this question now, so I can have something to price and work towards. I don't know, I work better when I know what I'm working for .

Twin Turbo's are twin head aches!! One "good" turbo is more then enough..An HP turbo or an Hellion makes quality products that will make 800HP to the wheels and still have the daily drivability..205 heads are too much, you could get by with 165's.Maybe its me but everytime I see a guy with twin turbo's I expect minimum high 9's,,but rarely see them doing 10's ..Theres a guy here sirsureshot, his new name is tt91,he went that route but never put up great 1/4 mile times, and the thing was always apart fixing something!!I think Bob Cosby went twin turbo's back in the day but was only in the 10's If you can do that with 1 why get 2 if its a street car?

I agree, a 'good' single turbo is better than twin. The technology has advanced where one turbo can do the job of two. Less headaches, less plumbing, less heat. Go with a single turbo. I just still think that turbo's are for racing, superchargers are for street.

When you have two turbo's you have twice the probability that something is going to break.

Because you have to keep up with the Jones'. Hell, the 03 cobras came with 390 h/p stock (underrated). The 06 base corvette's have 400 h/p stock while the Z06's have 505 h/p stock. Hell, there are quite a few family car's now a days that will lay waste to aging 5.0.
