Twisted Wedge's on my Flat Top 86

Hey all,

I just want to verify what I think is correct, but you can indeed run the twisted wedge heads on the 86 engine without notching the flat tops right? I know I've seen it advertised, but I just wanted to make sure. Eventually I'll tear the engine down and put better internals in, but right now the stock block only has 60,000 miles on it, so I figure I'll just romp on it till it blows and then rebuild.

i'm pretty sure you can get away with this with a low lift cam, but you might wanna search the threads first, or call up TFS better yet...

I had TW's on my wagon with TRW 4 eyebrow flat tops. I only ran a Comp Cams 280H, the OOLLDD version with .498" lift. No problems at all. The paper work that came with the heads said .500" was the max with out custom notched pistons but I have seen others running .530 with out any custom notching. Clay it if you are suspicious. BTW, the wagon ran 12.50s with no nitrous on 235-60-14 DOT stickies. Fun little car!
TW heads are great street/strip heads but I will be using Darts for my next project that will be more strip than street.

They should be ok but i agree with bobcat on the clay to check you piston to valve clearance. I have TW's on my car and when the bottom end was stock the intake valves did hit a hair. I have a pretty beefy cam though with .555" lift on the intake. If you have a mild cam you should be in the clear. Good luck!

I have the stage 1 TFS cam that came with the top end kit, so it should work pretty well cuz I don't think it's over .500 lift. Thanks for you input everyone.

The rule of thumb for TW heads and 86 flat tops is no more than 224* @ .050" dur, No less than 112* LSA,
You can go up to approximately .550" lift.

In a boosted application install the TFS # 31400414
dual springs. Set the installed height @ 1.780" for a seat pressure of
125lbs...

If you have not yet purchased the heads, Get a TFS # 51400004 as it already
has the appropriate dual springs installed.
