Hey guys, I went to look at a 65 2+2 last night. Super nice car, and will probably buy it ! While driving the car, I noticed it has a twitch or jerk out and back at higher speeds (55 or up). Anyone had similar problems ? I'm gonna try and get it in the garage by this weekend and check out all the steering linkage and box.

Also, for you 65 guys, If the door tag is missing, is there any other way to decode colors and options besides the VIN on the inner fender ?

THANKS !!

There is no way to decode a door tag if it is missing on a 65-66. The Marti reports you may have read will ony be for 67 and up i believe. The records for the 65' 66's were "lost" somehow so it is impossible for us to decode our cars fully. Sorry to break the news. Luckily for me my dootag is still there.

Do a Google search for "Body Buck Tag Decoder". IF you can find the metal tag (not all cars have 'em, and sometimes the tags are covered by the right fender, up near the cowl), it can be decoded to give more info than the VIN. I'm not sure if it'll tell you which color paint and interior you're supposed to have.

Thanks for the info on decoding. This car only has a couple of prior local owners, so maybe I can locate that tag !

As far as the front end, the best way I can describe it is that at 50mph or more, the steering wheel actually quickly jerks left, them back right, almost in a swaying motion. I'll investigate this further this weekend, just loking for some good leads to get started !

above 50 sounds like a wheel balance, spindle bearing or possibly the control valve when the power steering pump reaches so many rpm's
