Two different mufflers theory?

I haven't started any exhaust modifications yet. There is a muffler shop up the street that will custom fabricate me an X-pipe. [The actual "X" piece is a purchased item.] Install the mufflers of my choice all for around $200. I've seen their work on a Mustang V6 and it looks very high quality.

Anyway.. after owning my previous Mustang with dual flowmasters, I loved the sound, except at highway speeds, the drone got on my nerves. I've read where the factory installed two different length mufflers to minimize the highway drone. [The theory is one of harmonic imbalance, I believe.] I am thinking of trying to use two different brands of turbo mufflers such as imco and dynomax for instance. I'm thinking this may achieve the same result.

What do you guys think? Anyone ever tried this?

Jerry Beach & I have had some conversations about offsetting the mufflers so that the RH or LH muffler did not have the same lenght pipe from the H pipe to the muffler. We both have been so busy chasing other rabbits that neither one of us has pursued it to see how well it worked.

That's interesting too... I didn't really think of changing the pipe length. I don't know if it would have the same effect though. Seems feasable.
