UFC 83

I'm looking forward to it. I have no doubts that GSP can dominate him entirely. If his fights with Matt Hughes doesnt validate that statement, look at him completely embarass Frank Trigg, decimate Sean Sherk, destroy Josh Koscheck, etc. etc. Every fight hes been in he has been impressive. Serra before he beat GSP was barely a top 25 fighter, if at all.

I dont even doubt his mental toughness to beat Serra, or his chin. The advantage that Serra has isnt his win over GSP, but the fact that he doesnt fear him, which is something the rest of the welterweight fighters cant say. Over and above that, he has nothing to lose. If he loses to GSP, oh well, he was expected to. He'll move down to his actual weight class of 155 and try his luck there. If he wins, he'll secure his place as a champion, and probably the #1 ranked welterweight in the world.

Odds of it? Slim to none. Anyone that chooses to disagrees should do their homework. Look at some of the fights mentioned, also watch the Jay Hieron and BJ Penn fight. GSP will win.

Regardless of how you break a fight down and who's beat who in the past and what their skill level is there is always the factor of the lucky punch that can never be ruled out in any fight. A single punch can turn an entire fight. With that said do I think Serra will win? Not necessarily, I dont think he beat GSP based on better skills and technique. I'll get to watch this UFC so I cant wait to see it. Nice to see that GSP's speaking is getting much better.

I expect GSP to make the necessary adjustments that gives him the advantage and as crazy as it may seem, I believe that’s on the ground. Even though GSP’s stand up is obviously better, Serra’s stand up matches very well against GSP’s (styles make fights). The great thing about MMA is you have so many other options.

If this fight goes much past the 2nd round I think GSP’s conditioning will give him a huge advantage.

For arguments sake I’ll take Serra’s side of the who will win discussion:p I mean it’s no fun if we all agree:D

You guys seem to be ignoring the contrasting style/match up aspect in this fight and fighting in general. Fight history is littered with superior fighters (on paper) having trouble with specific opponents, think Ali/ Frazier. Is that the case with Serra/GSP? We will see.

I don't care for Serra at all. I think GSP is a far superior fighter. I think GSP should beat Serra in 8 out of 10 fights.

A friend of mine got to meet Joe Rogan not to long ago and asked his prediction about the GSP vs Serra fight. Rogan seemed to thing that Serra has a very good chance of winning again due to the fact the fight was going to be in Canada and he things GSP's nerves and all the hype of the fight being in Canada and GSP being Canadian might be enough of a distraction that he could loose focus. And again as always Serra has a punchers chance. 2007 was the year of the upsets. Things that never should have happened did.

I can't wait to see the fight. I hope GSP runs over Serra like he did Hughes. After that I hope they will set up Hughes vs Serra. I want to see Serra get his ass kicked twice in a row!! :D

Actually, Serra just had a cortozone block, not surgery. Which kind of leaves me to believe that his injury was a bunch of BS. I just had back surgery, they gave me cortozone shots a few times and they don't do ****. Even the doctor tells you theres like a 5% chance or less of them actually working, and it can be for very limited times.

As far as GSP's nerves...I doubt it. When you're on the big stage, you're on the big stage. Hes headlined so many fights its not even funny. Outside of that, he was also the WW champ of TKO which is really popular in Montreal, so he'll be used to fighting in front of his home crowd.

Even if Serra was 120%, I think GSP will still whoop his ass.

I had back problems as well and it took about a month or so to get a little better. He was 2 months out and he said he couldint compete. I know he must of been afraid to fight hughes.. Also what is with him and rampage having belts for over a year with no title defense?

A lot of the no title defenses is due to the UFC putting their titleholders on The Ultimate Fighter. It ties them up for like 6 months, because they tape it for 6 weeks, edit and air it about 2 months later. Take 2 months to show them all, and then about a month before the finale. Serra should have defended his though, however. I feel for anyone with back problems, I just dont believe in the miracle cortozone block. Tim Sylvia gets props from me for fighting with a bad back for a few years.

A little trash talking from Matt Serra

UFC welterweight Champion Matt Serra recently sat down with MMAMadness.com to discuss his place in MMA, his thoughts on Matt Hughes, and his upcoming rematch with Georges St. Pierre. Below are some of the highlights of that conversation.

Matt Serra On His Place In MMA:

I am the MMA version of The Cinderella Man, except my fight didn’t go the distance. When you beat the man, you’re the man. Matt Hughes was the man and he got beat soundly by GSP. I knocked out GSP, so I am the man right now.

Serra On Georges St. Pierre:

Afterward he made up some excuses, but he apologized. He is a young guy who got the belt at an early age. There’s no reason for me to be angry at him. It’s not like Matt Hughes, who I think is a moron. GSP is a good guy.

Serra On Matt Hughes:

I’d like to fight Matt Hughes at some point. That fight has to happen regardless (of what happens against GSP). Too much has been done and said. Some guys win some fights and they become *******s. I’m no different for better or worse. But Matt Hughes brings out the worst in me. He is mentally challenged. I haven’t read his book. People said it makes him sound like a dickhead. That’s not surprising. He’s not the sharpest tool in the shed.

Serra On His First Fight With Georges St. Pierre.

People love GSP, but you can’t deny what I have done. You have Matt Hughes saying it was a lucky punch, but he’s a retard. Georges was supposed to be the new MMA god; the guy on the Wheaties box.. As far as everyone was concerned, I was just a little Italian guy that got lucky. It wasn’t one punch.I got the better of every exchange. I had a gameplan and it was my night. People will say what they want to say. I haven’t lost any sleep over it. What can they say anyway? That I didn’t dominate that fight? It doesn’t matter. Critics can’t get into the cage with you unless they are in your head. Look, when I get (to Montreal's Bell Centre), I know (the fans) are going to be against me. That’s Ok. I already have my family and friends, I could use a few enemies. So boo me. Boo me you drunks!

OK,

I've watched the fight 20 or 30 more times lol.

Surprisingly Serra looks really comfortable standing with Georges, unlike Hughs.

What changes do you guys expect GSP to make?

I think GSP will throw with him a little but I would expect GSP to take him down and work him like he did Hughs. GSP has proven his ground game is amazing. He has completely dominated both Hughs and Koscheck on the ground. Both of those guys are great wrestlers.

On the other hand GSP might have just taken Serra lightly the first time and wasn't expecting Serra to have any skills or just wasn't expecting the power. After getting his ass kicked he might be a little more prepared for what Serra might bring. In a few days we're gonna get to find out! :D

GSP wins by TKO in the second round. I dont think he'll be tentative to trade on the feet, but I expect it to end on the ground, either by takedown or by knockdown.

This time he'll keep his feet light, his jab on mark and his kicks timed right.

Very...very excited.
