Uh oh, extra parts..Where does this go (steering)

'98 GT Conv. When I seperated the rack and pinion from the steering rod, this rubber piece fell out. Anyone know where it goes? I think it dampened something in my steering cause now I have a funny zzzzzzzzz noise coming from the steering column.

BTW - Got all my poly bushings installed this weekend in the front end....What a job that was! I am just glad to have it done. It's getting an alignment right now, but the car handles SO much better now!

maybe in with the bolt that holds the steering shaft together? You know how the steering shafthas the innner outer sleeve thing, like a rubber washer/dampener maybe? i dunno.

I've seen that before though... What about an end cap to the shaft? just plops on at the end.

On the end of the steering shaft that links to the steering rack there's two large metal plates. It goes between them to dampen vibrations to the steering wheel.

unbolt it and place the rubber piece in and retighten.
