Uncle Robin Lawrence

I recently read an article about Uncle Robin Lawrence and his Paxton supercharged mustang. It says his is the fastest S197 model mustang, but my question is regarding his car. In the article it says that he uses a V6! I am not sure if this is true, so that's why I am asking, but if it is true, why would he get a V6 over the GT which is infinitely better as far as performance?

It's a purpose built race car with a pushrod 302 motor in it.
