Urethane bumpers and clear coat/paint

On my black 96 the clear coat and base paint are looking really bad..like the previous owner may have used some dish washing liquid to was the car and didnt keep them waxed on top of that...the clear is starting to flake off..I am about to goto school for body work but it will be a year b4 I finish and can repaint them myself..till then is there a decent looking can spray paint for this type application that I may can use after doing some light sanding on the bumpers? I know it sounds like a disaster in the making but anything would have to look better than what it does now...ruins the nice clean look of the car to see that chit flaking off and everything

Well it depends on just how bad it is.Is it just in a couple small spots,or is it most of the bumper? I noticed your car is black. Now if it's a really dark jet black which I think it may be (Paint codes would tell),then you can rework the bumper with some Duplicolor.I personally preffer Duplicolor as it's much better quality.Stay well clear of Plastikote paints. They are way too thin.

Now,on another note.Do you know anything at all about prepping, painting or finishing?Besides what you "WILL" know after your schooling. It's very important to know some proper prepping and spraying techniques.Granted, painting with a regulated type spray gun that runs off a compressor is the best way to go.But it can still be done with canned paint. It takes practice no doubt. And only with practice and patience will you get a semi-decent result. On;y the best results come from using a regulated spray gun off compressed air.
