I have a explorer gt40 intake (non tube type).

I ground the P!ss out of it, and painted it.

I am almost done going over it again and getting it powdercoated silver metalic...this time the intake has the bracket removed from the side, and has been worked even smoother...almost to the point of polishing actually. I am also matching the elbow to the sides of the intake to make it look like one.

Hope to drop it off at powdercoat next week.

I recently started working on my GT40 intake. I stripped all of the paint off with aircraft stripper, then used a dremel to smooth out the mold line in the center tube.

I made numerous attempts to polish the side where the elbow or TB attaches but had to start over after nicking it with the dremel. My plan is to polish the top, the funs, and the part mentioned above (is there a name for that?), then paint the tubes black.

Its a crappy pic but not too bad for a camera phone..

Why? I powdercoat my own parts so I know the process in depth and I know of no reason why its a better approach than ceramic. You will not get the same reflective coating from powder as you do from the reflective ceramic, nor the thermal properties of it either.

well from what i understand ceramic is supposed to keep heat in, as in exhaust headers, so why would you want to keep heat in a manifold? not being a wiseass, just curious.

Ceramic is actually supposed to disapate heat. Powdercoating holds heat in ALOT more then ceramic does. I powdercoat my own parts on my car, and I've done my upper intake and valve covers along with tons of NON car related items.
