Guys i need help. Im only 17 and i got my first stang a few months ago.Its a 99 v6 35th anniv .I want to start doing engine work but theres a big problem, its AUTOMATIC.Should i leave it how it is or should i start hooking it up.If hooking up then what can i do to it to start off.

Recommend you do a search for "first mods" in all V-6 forums. You'll get all the information you need there. As far as it being auto, keep it. Yes Manual is more fun to drive but auto is what you got, and it is a pain to put in a manual without all the tools. If you have these then have at it, if you do not, leave well enough alone and enjoy your new ride.

You need a high stall converter and a shift it. That'll make you glad you got an auto

A high stall converter on a stock ride?

a converter does basicaly what a clutch does on a manual ( basicalybut not exactly). Usualy when you start getting way out there on high profile cams and move you power band away from what the stock rpm the convert is designed for, so you swap in a high stall converter so you hook it up in a higher power ban instead of slipping along. Once you start using a high stall converter you'll notice a little less gas mileage also. The shift kit helps improve ****ting in a automatic gear box and helps you control your power band a hair more. Now that is just the way I understand it and someone probly could explain it better than me.

A high stall converter is gonna allow the motor to rev a little more thus making more power before the converter kicks in. This allows you to use more power off the line. The shift kit is gonna make your tranny shift faster and harder which gets you into the next gear quicker. You would need a tranny cooler for the converter cause launching would make more heat in the tranny than a stock converter. There are some people here and on V6power who have PI converters from maybe 2400 to 3000. I'm looking into it and hope to have one in the next few weeks. Trust me tho, when you get a shift kit you really wonder why you didn't have it before.

I can see the shift kit but not a converter on a stock car. If your car makes power from 1500-5000 then why have a converter from 2500-5000 ? Just don't make a lot of since to me but I'm no expert on autos. (It seems like your just shorting your power ban for) When you get your higher converter let us know how it goes, heck I want to drive it and see

Now why would you not soup it up just because it's an automatic? Man, it's easier to drive in traffic, you don't have to jack with replacing the clutch, it's worth more resale value. Basically, anytime you aren't racing the auto is better.(IMO). I've done a bit to mine and I think it's pretty quick. For the record, about how much are these shift kits everyone's talking about for the auto? I heard B & M was the best one. Is that true?

Where can i get a good shift kit, how much would it go for and is it hard to install? I do all the mechanical work myself.

I got a Trans-Go from the classifieds at Mustangworld. The install should take a few hours depending on how high off the ground you can get the car. Mine was just high enough to lay underneath and get to everything, but I wish it had been higher. The shift kit isn't too bad, but you have to drop the tranny to change the converter.

I have a superior transmissions shift kit in my 6, install was about 2 hours laying on my back to get the valve body out. It's funny how much it amazes people when an automatic v6 barks the tires going into second.

What rear end to these 99 v6 bring? Cuz it says the 4.10 gears and 3.73 are for 8.8

Another Question what website can i go to, to see all my cars info/spec w.e its called. Like original tor/horsepower and size of everything.
