Valve cover question on a carb'd car

Ok, i bought some of the TrickFlow black powdercoated valve covers. They do not have any holes in them for PCV's or breathers. Id like to butcher them as little as possible, so i was wondering if i could just make small holes in them, and run small lines to some universal pcv valves instead of cutting big holes for the breathers.

Now i know ill need at least an oil fill hole, so this is what im thinking... ill buy this TrickFlow oil fill tube, that has a plug to add a pvc in it... run a fitting from it, to a hose to a pvc..

Then on the other valve cover, tap a small hole with like a barbed nipple on it, and run a hose off that to another pvc valve.

Think it would work???

I just dont want to kill the look of the valve covers with some giant breathers

I had to cut holes in my ford racing valve covers. That idea should work well.

You can probably get away with drilling one hole for the oil fill cap, and use a cap that has a PCV fitting/hole drilled into it and run the PCV from there and just leave the other one alone. My stock valve covers came with a cap like this but the other cover had a typical filler cap on it, but you could still unscrew the cap with the PCV if you wanted to put oil in there instead.

So as long as it vents out the one side, i dont need to have a vent in the other side? im just making sure im understanding you right. ya always see dudes with big breathers on each side, and sometimes 2 breathers per valve cover, i just want to make sure im not gonna have an issue later on.

I've never heard either way really....but i guess i do have an oil fill cap that's a breather too so i guess i do have both sides vented. It probably wouldn't hurt. This is a carb setup though right? You could drill the holes on the back end of each cover so they're back towards the firewall....at least then they'd be more out of sight.

Thats what i was thinking too... i was gonna tap 2 small holes on the back, get the barbed nipples, and a 3 way union, run a hose from each side to the union, then put the pvc off the other end... hell, i dont know, i just hate these chrome jobbies that are on there, especially when i have a nice set of VC's in the box right next to the car.

I just got off the phone with trickflow, they said by getting the filler tube (link above) i can run a pvc off of that, and i dont have to touch the other side unless i have an extreme amount of oil pressure.

So now i get to bring my valve cover to work, and get our machinist to use the CNC drill to cut me a hole

Question... does it matter which valve cover (drivers or passengers) side i put the filler tube on? and will it matter if its towards the front or back of the engine?

Cool, thanks for the help man.... i just ordered the fill tube from summit, so ill try to take some pics when i get it in and installed.

Some motors can get away with it others can not. My buddies car needed to have another breather installed to get rid of the crank gasses.

Also when installing pcv the vacuum you want to have on them is very little. Not full intake vaccuum as I recall.

Well i was wanting to install a pcv instead of a breather. or maybe ill just get a small breather at the end instead of a pcv valve

Here's an old pic of my engine....you can see the PCV valve on the passenger side and the oil fill on the other side in the front. You could run a PCV like mine in the back and put the oil fill/breather in the back on the other side and keep a pretty clean look.

The funky clear tube and metal line are what i had to use when i swapped intakes. I lated just replaced the metal line with a hose.

Hold up... why is your throttle linkage on the pasenger side? I have a holley 4150, and the linkage is on the drivers side... that would explain why i have a long ass throttle cable if i had the thing mounted backwards lol.

LOL that's the mechanical choke....i only ran them for like 3 days before i realized they were worthless and removed choke completely. The throttle is on the driver's side

you cant tell im new to carb's can ya?

I bought the lokar universal throttle cable when i switched to carb, and i cant figure out why the HELL its so long. im going to have to figure out a way to route it to take up some of the slack.

I stole a factory throttle cable off of a 79 Mustang and it worked great for my carb'd 351w swap.

I've heard that's the best cable you can buy but i don't know jack about it either. Maybe it's long so you can cut it to length?
