My attached garage just gets too hot in the summer. The doors are insulated as are the walls and ceiling so in the winter its decent with the heat from the two freezers running. Summer its more humid and not horribly hot but not great. I was thinking of putting a powered fan in the roof and ducting down to the ceiling. Fan would kick on from a temperature sensor in the garage. Found some vents that I can install in the bottom of the garage doors with mesh screens for the bugs and I was thinking about adding filters to keep the dust down. Vents are here:

Have any of you done anything like this?

That thing will be your biggest heat loss in the winter.

Ever thought about a split A/C system?

I was going to put a louvered cover on the ceiling so I can close it. The garage door vents could be blocked as well.

I have thought about the split vent but my breaker panel is full so it would require adding a 100A sub panel which I can do. The issue is once you open the garage door all the heat or AC is gone. I’m just looking to get the humidity down and the garage be ambient air temp.

That's only "sort of" true. When you cool a room all of the objects within the room take on ambient temperature over time. So, assuming the garage is set to 78* and you open and close the door on a hot day. It's not enough time to change the temp of all the objects, floors, ceiling, etc.. in that time.

I hear you man, its called thermal mass transfer. Rate of the thermal transfer is dependent on the size of body A vs body B and what the temperature differential is. Again, I am not wanting to run HVAC in the attached garage as the shop will have that. My wife is in an out of the attached garage several times a day and feels that the overhead door is how she is supposed to walk in and out of it even though there is a passage door. So with her habits I think the ventilation route is the way to go for me.

Does anyone have any other suggestions on the garage door vents as the previously mentioned wife doesn't like how they look...she is from Texas so bless her heart.

I have two other suggestions:

The first would be to put heat extractor on the roof of the garage. One of those whirly thingies:

or an electric one like this:

These work really well when there is a separation between the room ceiling and the roof (an attic of sorts).

If it's attached garage, you can put a grill between the house and the garage so that conditioned air is pulled into the garage or place your external vent down low on the shady side of the house.

The other part of this are sun shades for the hottest side of the garage.

This way the building is not absorbing all of that energy.

I do agree that some kind of shading would help on the west side but I want to try this first and see if it gets the temp and humidity down. Just talked to my buddy that runs roofing crews and he is going to come out and knock the fan in the roof next Thurs or Fri when I am working ouf the house. Found a fan at Lowe's with a 10 year warranty instead of the one at Home Depot with a five year. Going to go get it here in a minute. This will get me motivated to work in the attic heat...sigh.

Try that and see. The louver could work, too!
