Vert and show car guys come in!!! Opinions wanted

First off: Vert guys, do your little map light things in the rear view mirror work? Mine don't and it is just one of those little things that bugs the crap out of me. Also my top started going crazy on me when the weather got colder over the winter, this might just coincide with the weather, but now my top won't go up or down w/o help. Is there a way to add hydraulic fluid to the top motor(if it even uses it ) The top will start to go down then just kinda stops.


Next for a show car-esque touch I was thinking about doing I need opinions. I was cleaning my interior today and thought it might be cool to make a little polished aluminum box with a plexi glass cover and a little polished handle with hinges on it. I could use a router and make some stands for things like: those armorall tubes(one for the glass, the protectant one, and the cleaning one), little aerosol can of febreze auto, a tube of tire-flat, then a rectangular section in the corner for jumper cables. '

One side of me thinks it would be a nice little touch, the other says it would just be a cheesy waste of time. I already have everything on that list in my trunk just rolling around, but it might be a kind of cool way to organize my trunk and add a little touch of uniqueness, maybe paint the bottom of the box a blue to match the bottle??

My map light works still (thank goodness) and I think my top is falling appart. I'm scared to take it down this summer. I'm not to sure about the fluid though.

The box would be a good idea. If it were me I'd take out the spare tire (mines flat so it's pointless to have it with me anyways. lol) and do something in that compartnment. Easily accessible and wont take up too much room.

Yeah, but the reason for the box would be to show off at car shows and stuff, not to hide. My bottle is NOS(blue obviously) and has polished brackets so it would be like a scheme in my trunk.

I would build a false wall for the back of the trunk area.(hinge to hinge,hiding the pump) Mount your box behind it without the lid and standing up. Put velcro straps in the box to hold everything in place. Then put a access hole in the false wall that can be removed at car shows to show it off and put back in place to hide everything.

First aid kits , fire extinquishers , and tool kits get car show points. Do a false floor and have those under plexiglass FTW!

The other thing is something I'd never bother doing, but I've seen similar things at shows so if you want to - why not.

My lights do work but they were burnt out at one point and I thought they were broken, so if you didn't, check the bulbs and fuse. When I had my interior redone they must've had the doors open because when I got it back they didnt work, I of course freaked out, but it was just bulbs.

As far as the top motor, it does take hydraulic fluid, but you CANNOT mix what is in there with new stuff unless it is the same. You can use ATF fluid, but mixing can cause some sort of reaction that will make the fluid become "gummy" and ruin the motor, etc.
Mine was sticking when I first got the car. I took the motor out and took it apart and then cleaned the brushes, etc. with parts cleaner. This got it working again and it lasted a couple of years before it burnt out and I had to replace it. Replacing it was how I found out to completely remove the old fluid from the lines and everything before putting new fluid in.

I like the box idea, I have considered the same type of thing, I just never did anything about it.

my light works. My top is fine, its only about 5 months old now, but the top switch is broken. Need to get a new one.

my lights never worked(not that I really care about those) and my top works great.
unless armor all or mothers was paying me to pimp their products and put them on display I wouldnt do the box. maybe i am just lazy, but a bag works just as well and I dont get pissed when something happens to it.

meh. the box would be cool with custom bottles and sprayers to put the chemicals in....but throwing a bunch of Armorall products or whatever in there seems cheesey

Before you go adding fluid to the pump reservoir, keep in mind that if its low, its leaking. If it continues to leak, the fluid will run down under the back seat and wick up into the seat foam. On my sisters vert, the pump motor's brushes went bad, so it had trouble lifting and closing the top.

my lights work, but why not use a regular carrying case? i have one that looks kind of like a duffle bag, but it has slots in it for spray wax/shine stuff, soap, water, liquid wax, tar & bug remover, etc.

i will be investing in a fire extinguisher and a tool kit. after years of having NO trunk space (sub box/amps/cap) those are the only 2 things i'd want in my trunk. and maybe a can of fix a flat.
