vortech supercharger-used. a few Q's

Hey guys. I am going to look at a used vortech supercharger off a 95 gt tomorrow morning. He wants $1000 and says it has everything. I went to vortech's web site and printed a parts list for it. He says its the 8lb kit. I know I gotta check for play and if it spins freely, but what else do I need to look for? He says the car caught on fire at the fuel pump and he put it out quick. He has the msd module, and says he has everything else. I am just skeptical since he is selling it for a friend and does not know a lot of details about it. Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Just keep your eyes open and use your head. Are you picking up the whole kit from the guy or just the S/C unit itself? $1K seems low to me, unless this guy doesn't know beans about what he is selling. If the car is already torn apart you don't have a real way to tell whether or not the unit is good, unless you have a friend with a vortech and would swap for a test.

that's what worries me is that the car is already apart. He is selling the whole kit together. He is doing it for a friend, so I am not sure it he's just doing it to get what he can for it, or if he's trying to scam someone. I am going to his house, so I will know where he lives and will get a reciept and stuff for it if I buy it.

Sounds fishy! Maybe its just me but anytime I hear the words "selling for a friend" it sets off my internal alarm bells! 1) He doesn't own it, so getting a reciept from him is useless. 2) Since its already apart your buying it blind. 3) The price is low, so standard line if it looks to good to be true it probably is! 4) You stated he doesn't know too many details (See #1).

Unless you've got somebody who knows what he's looking at or you yourself do, I'd walk away. Just my opinion, but I think he's a curbsider, got the car for scrap somewhere and is parting it out! The whole "friend" thing is BS!

I went to go look at it and I don't think it's worth it. He "thinks" its all their and said if not, I can come get the other parts. I smelled his bs and am going to walk away. Thanks for your help guys.
