Well, I kinda wanna get outta the mustang game for right now, i'm about to go to college and need to have something better on gas and reliable. I dont wanna hear "keep the stang" i just want some options on what to get next. And i'm not for sure getting rid of it, just been thinking about it.

I want something 4 door, nice, reliable, and most of all not too expensive. my budget it limited, i will sell my car, i do have graduation coming, and i might be able to finance a little bit if i had to. And insurance would have to be resonable.

I was thinking a 2000 Lincoln LS, i could possibly get one for like around $8,000 with miles, and a V6. I want something nice i can haul my friends around, and not have to worry about it being fast or anything like that. Maybe an explorer or a maxima/altima. I'm open to suggestions.

ok, if you want gas mileage stay away from ANY SUV, as your stang probably gets better than they do, the maxima/altima idea has my vote, but i'm sure you'll get something you like and will suit you.

However, I was wondering if you would consider parting out your exhaust?

my v6 explorer gets 19 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway its about the same gas mileage as my stang so i think if you looking at gas mileage i don't think a lincoln or explorer is the answer i figure a v6 probably gets about the same gas mileage in alot of cases or maybe a couple more miles to the gallon and i am talking stock engines. something to think about...

I don't get it.

You said you want something better on gas. The ONLY reason I can think is because the price of gas (it racks up after a while). Yet you're considering financing?

As far as toting around friends .... you can fit 2 in the back!

Anyway, I'm thinking V6 Explorer or V6 LS if you go that route. But you're crazy if you do. (there, I didn't say it!)

I work as a Ford Tech and if you're looking for a nicer car stay away from the LS. Maybe its just been my experience but those cars are the biggest pain. It seems like there's always one coming in for something, and it seems to get worse with age. We've had trans problems w/ those 5r55's, problems w/ the rears, problems w/ the trac control and a few steering noises that ford fixes by having us pour the limited slip additive into the resovior (engineers are silly) But anyhow, just be careful when looking at the LS's, they can be a horror. Get a Grand Prix GTP. There fast, very roomy and good on gas. i got 22 on the city and 29 on the highway, it was a 97. and i got it for 3,800

lol, a$$hole.

maximas are nice--one of the only few 4-door cars i'd get.

I 2nd the LS thing...Do some research on em before you buy and youll change your mind...Nice looking ride but not dependable at all...

As someone who's partial to Nissan's I say a Maxima/Altima would be sweet and a wise choice....I have owned 4 Nissans....They never break...I have never had one back to the dealership for problems.. trouble free cars in my opinion...

being in college with a mustang isn't a problem. I drove halfhour one way for 4.5 years to college everyday in a mustang. Never had a problem with driving guys around. i don't know how often your going to be going on cross country road trips, but other than them, most people don't mind being stuck in the back for a little bit. Don't sell it, you'll prolly regret it in a year.

I can understand you concerns.. When I started school I was driving 50 miles/day with my 99 Wrangler that was undergeared, with 33s and a 4" lift. I ended up trading it in because I thought it was getting terrible mileage. Finally I realized that I wanted another convertible so I sold my Subie and bought the Mustang. I drove my mustang for 4 mo. back and forth to school, sure the mileage isnt great but its do-able. So instead of getting rid of my Mustang I decided to pick up a beater for $300 and drove that over winter. I saved on the gas expense and the insurance was lower with liability only on the Escort and storage on the mustang.

If you really want a 4 door I'd pick up either a Nissan or a Legacy/Impreza.

I vote for a maxima. Nissan's are great cars. But like the other guy said, if your looking to save gas money, but your willing to finance, that completely defeats the purpose. The couple $100 every year you save on gas will be negated probably 10 times over in finance payments. If gas is your main concern, you should be looking to trade down to a 6cyl/4cyl car.

I am keepin my stang through college but i might end up just garaging it and getttin a 4 cyl. instead because they are reliable and great MPG. I was thinkin something new like a focus or something, just something that is practically brand new with super low miles but cheap.

Why not just get a DD like a honda toyota older acura, a nissan or a mazda. I have a mazda protege that is my DD, I bought it 4 years ago for $600. its in great condition, and still drives awesome. I actually like driving it. I have a few other cars too but they all suck on gas mileage, so the mazda gets all the duty.

I kept my stang through college and bought another one when I got out. The best part about having one in college is you never have to drive. When going out no one usually wanted to cram in a mustang. It was always the person with the suv that ended up drivin

hey matt, my buddy has a lincoln ls v6....they are really nice, and handle incredibly well. but, even though its a v6, he has to run premium fuel in it....so that could get expensive, but it still gets good mpg. If your lookin for an suv, i know my blazer got about 23mpg on the interstate, and close to 18 in city. its a 4.3l 4x4. if your lookin for a 4door car, i do like the maximas....or if you lookin for something older, a taurus SHO gets good mpg and is pretty quick

EDIT- yeah beware of the LS tranny. my friends is slipping already and it only has 40-50k miles i beleive
