Heres the situation...I want a mach 1 because I cannot afford an '05 GT and I love the look of them and the power. HOWEVER, I now realize that I will not be able afford the mach 1's considering that they are $20k+. So I'm think about purchasing an 02+ GT and modding it since they are under $15k easy (under 40k mi).

Now what kind of modding and what kind of price am I looking at to get my GT around the power of a mach 1? 300hp at the crank? So thats....40 horses? I was thinking about a full exhuast w/ longtubes, btu I don't know what else would put me there.

I like Pro3 and all I got was this crappy CT.

300hp at the crank? thats easy enough. full exhaust, tuner, TB and elbow will get you there. 300 at the crank is like 260 at the wheel
If your talking about 300hp at the wheel, thats diffrent story

Edit-i just realize that your AT. so it'll be little more then that.

for the sake of a number, if you buy an 02-04 gt AT 15k, look to spend almost 5k to get it to 300hp under two conditions:

1. you install everything yourself, having someone install everyting for you will cost $$$
2. the car is in stock condition

I was looking at mach 1's for a wile. you can find them for less than 20k. I found a couple in the 18.5k to 19.5k range.

mach 1 5speed is a low 13 sec car. it takes some money to get a gt into the low 13 seconds. if you are going to buy a gt buy an older one for like 12k then mod it. if you are willing to spend 15k on gt just buy the mach 1 IMO.

If you do buy the GT boost it or do somthing like gears, heades, cams right away. if you just bolt on a gt a mach 1 will blow you doors off. I can hang with autos but 5 speeds still take me. I am going to boost my car eventually. If they would had the mach 1 in 01 I would have bought it. It feels a good bit stronger than the 01 cobra did to me when I test drove it.

Machs are <20k if you keep looking. I got mine for $19.5 a year ago and found one for a buddy last month for $19. By the time you buy a late model GT and mod it to get close to 300 you are likely to have spent nearly as much if you had just bought the mach in the first place.

When I decided to buy mine it was because I decided my goal was to put 300+ hp to the wheels. I had an 01 GT at the time. After looking at all the mods it would take to the GT I decided it would be more effective to spend the money and buy a car that started closer to the goal.

I'd rather have a mach than an '05 GT anyway

I think you guys are right, 40 extra horses on a stock car is quite xpensive. I think I'll just end up waiting until the end of the year or after winter to get it...sucks because I want it now lol I miss the power and sound of a strong engine! Never again will I buy a V6stang =nono:

Well, I personally love the mach's because of their distinct sound, the shaker hood, and the chin spoiler.

I can't stand the gauge cluster, the seats, or the rear trunk panel crap.

5k+ to hit 300rwhp? Feh. That's precisely why most people do FI. Horsepower per dollar is way too expensive staying NA.

Think of it this way. You could buy a GT for whatever they are going for, and throw a twin turbo at it, or a KB, and smoke every mach on the road, and still have probably paid less than a used mach will cost you. Sure, you won't have the 4V sound, but oh well.

45 extra hp, 16 extra valves, 2 extra cams, 1000 more rpm til redline (in 5-spd)bigger brakes, shaker hoodscoop, chin spoiler, MUCH better seats, better guages, aluminum intake (instead of the crappy plastic 2V pos), different springs/shocks/struts, MUCH fewer production number.. and many other things... I honestly think it's WELL worth it

If I had to do it all over again I would have got a 99-04 GT.I like the 96-98 GT's body style alot better though.
The Mach 1 is rare I don't see very many of them for
sell because the smart people keep them.If you really want a Mach 1 save until you can afford one and be happy.

If I could go back in time, my User Name and liscense plate would be AZURE03 if that tells you anything.

Not to , but Save your $ and get yourself a Mach. They're out there for a good price, just gotta look. You'll thank us all later.

If your referring to his auto, that has nothing to do with FWHP. which is what he is after.
