so i made a good full throttle 2nd gear pull today and glanced down at the tach in the upp RPMS (around 5500) and the tach did something odd....it like studdered....it like stuck for a second and then jumped up to near 6 grand....it was weird as hell....fuel starvation up top due to an old fuel filter???

Probably just the crappy stock tach. They are know to not be very accurate in the upper rpms. I wish Autometer would come out with a complete gauge set like they did for the 99+. If your worried about it you could get an aftermarket tach.

id like it to be that.....im really hoping its the fuel filter......but im such a pessimistic idiot all that goes through my head is...."its starving for fuel....oh wait what if its valve float??...nah its to early for valve float...but what if it is...its just the fuel filter...or a crappy tach....but it could be something really wrong...." :bang:

I thought you replaced the fuel filter recently. If not, get in there and do it. I did mine in about 10 min, just get some glasses or something so you don't get fuel in the eyes. I just looked away when I did mine, worked out fine. I got to use a lift at school though, so I'm sure that helps.

heh, no i didnt get a chance to lol....ive had the filter for like 2 months now....i just havnt had a chance to devote much time to my car latley....actually my time has been devoted towards other cars....helping my buddy track down a motor for his girlfriend's car and then do the swap.....ugh....

I'm with Jake. I say it is the junk stock tach. Did the car stop pulling while the tach stopped moving? Or did the tach stop and the car kept moving? If the car kept pulling and the tach jumped, I would put my money on the tach. You didn't hit the limiter. You'd know it if you hit that thing....

the reason they dont is because we would have to reset our odometer by hand, on the 99+ the miles are saved in the computer and come up digitally on the dash so u just plug it in and your miles come right up. as for the tach sticking, if you replaced the gauge faces to like white ones or whatever color you might have pushed the needle for the tach in to far, i bought my car with yellow face gauges (worst looking pieces of crap ive ever seen) the guy who did it did a horrible job and he pushed the tach needle in to far so it would stick at certain RPMs. well a few days ago i replaced the ugly yellow face gauges with white face ones an i pushed the tach needle in not as far an now my tach is perfectly fine.

those are crap...expensive dress up kit...uses all stock equipment, heck, you even have to swap components across on them from the stock cluster
Jake means this.....FAR from a dress up kit.....
