I just picked up some 15x8 draglites for dirt cheap for the rear of the car. What backspacing is normally run on these wheels? The wheels I bought are 4.5 inches of backspace and the rim looks like it sits nearly flush with the out fender well. Is this the correct backspacing? What size tires do you suggest? I dont want to have a redneck looking tire sticking out past the fenderwell..BTW the car is not lowered.

4.5 is the normal backspacing, anything smaller the 9.5 wide should tuck fine

This is my 88 Gt with 4.5 inch baskspacing with 255/60/15s. It tucks right in nicely.I also have a set of 5.5 inch backspacing and will be trying them out soon.

Here's two pic's of my Cobra with Weld Draglites in 15x8 with 4.5" backspacing. The tires are 295-50-15's and do stick out about a 1/2 inch on each side. I did not roll the fender lips because I had already had the car painted and didn't want to ruin the paint or crease the sheetmetal. What I did instead, was to buy a rear airbag kit (Air lift) for $65.00 from Summit Racing to prevent the sidewalls from getting cut on the rear quarter panel lips. Although they stick out somewhat, I get a lot of compliments on the size and look.

Here's a pic of my twin brother's '85 GT with the same size tires and wheels.

Thanks! We're both running 15x7" (with 4.5" backspacing) Weld Draglites in the front. Our tires are different sizes though. He's running B.F. Goodrich Radial T/A's (225-60-15) and I'm running the same tire but different size (215-60-15) as I wanted my front end to be a little bit lower for a slightly different look.

mine are 15x8 with 5.5"bs if I remember correctly. Had to pound the inner fender a little for the 10.5" slicks to not rub on corners but the lips arent rolled.

Yeah, it's 4.5 backspacing, with 275/60s . I had to run a 1/4" spacer, otherwise I would have had to use the BFH on the inner fenderwells. No rubbing now, and that's a 28" tire.

I bought mine from Summit Racing. It's very hard to beat their low pricing. Their service is regarded as tops in the industry and delivery time is very good.

I had 15X8's with a 4.5 inch backspacing but I regreted it because they rubbed and stuck out. Here is a picture of it.

Unfortunately Weld doesn't make the "Exact" backspacing anymore for the Mustang. They either make an 8 with a 4.5 or 5.5 inch BS, when an 8 needs a 5 inch to sit just right. They did make the correct wheels for a while, they were called "XP's". I actually found a set of 16X8.5's with a 5.5 inch BS and they fit perfect. Here's how they fit with 245-50-16's Nittos.

WELLS PERFORMANCE 1347 University Boulevard Jacksonville, FL 32211 (904) 743-5878 is also a Great place to get Welds from. Even a little cheaper than Summit and with Great customer service.

Good Luck!

When did they rub? Was the car lowered or people sitting in the back. DO you think I will be ok with a 255? Thanks.

15X8 with 5.5" backspacing with a 1/4" spacer to keep the 275/50/15 tires off the inner fender well. Car is lowered 7/8" and the tires do not stick out of the fender. Picture in link.
