Welds for a Fox

I'm sure this has been asked a dozen times on this sight, but I haven't been able to find this info. What size Draglites fit with what size tire on the rear of a Fox body that still uses the quad shocks? What back spacing should I go with?

15x8"
5.5" backspaceing
275/50R15 Tires

Quad shocks gotta go, they are garbage and are not needed. Ditch them. They really don't do much anyway.

If you get upper/lower control arms and a pinion snubber, you'll have a realiable and very capable rear suspension for a street/strip car. You won't get axle hop, if that's your concern. :D

Yes. Axle hop was what I was thinking. I already am running BBK upper and lowers. 275/50R's seem a little large. Wouldn't they turn my 3.55 gears into 3.27's? .... Opps. Just checked MT and I see the 275/50R's are only 26" diamater. Though they do suggest using a 10" rim.

and you don't HAVE to remove the quad shocks, but it will be necessary to do so if you want to run larger tires. If you wanted mid-sized tires, you could fit some 245's back there and most likely leave the quad shocks. Might want to go with 5.5" backspacing.

I'm not to concerned about removing the quads. I've always heard they were pretty much useless if you had good upper and lowers. If I didn't have to that would be fine also. I currently have 235/60R's on the stock 10 holes and was thinking about some Welds for track us only. Maybe some skinny's up front.

Currently I run 275/50R15 BFG Radial T/A's on the 15x8's with 5.5 backspace. I have the stock upper/lowers and a pinion snubber and I NEVER have axle hop. SO if you have BBK U&L's already, I think you're golden.

No matter what I recommend a pinion snubber. They cost like $50 bucks and dramitically change the amount of traction you will get. When I hit the gas, I feel my car squat a little bit and then the snubber does it's thing and the entire car raises up and just flat out hauls A down the road. It's sweet.

235/60R15's and 275/50R15's are almost the exact same height. Won't change your rpm's enough to notice.

Right ... Checked the MT sight and saw that the 275/50R 15's were about the same. Didn't the 8.8 have an pinion snubber from the factory? I thought that is what I pulled off when I installed PHP axle braces. If it was I'm not sure I can run both. Besides, as long as I'm on a drag radial I really don't have to worry about traction. Air em down and the motor bogs off the line.

Oh yeah, I'd say you're all set. :nice:

And yes they did have a rubber bumper thing that was pretty much useless. Too short and not adjustable.

Hi Fishhawk....Nice to meet ya in Mendota at the cruise! For 275-50-15 drag radials, you'll have to take the quads off. With the Uppers and lowers that you have, that shouldn't be a problem. You can use a 15x8 drag lite with 5.5" of backspacing, but may have to massage the inner fender well just a little. We're talking maybe a quarter inch here. If the car is lowered, maybe a little more. Here's a couple of pics.

LOL ...... Now I remember you're car. You're car definitly sits a lot higher then mine. I'm wondering if I used a 1/4" spacer that I would minimize the amount of inner fender pounding I would have to do, yet still allow for outter fender clearance. (Maybe a little fender rolling)
Nice meeting ya, probably see you at Joliet. Tell you're buddy if I go with the Weld's and 275's I'll have a set of BFG DR 235/60's with 10 passes on them for sale. I think he needs them .... LOL.

I ran the rodlites on my 91.They were 15x8's and had a 4.5 inch back spacing with the 28" ET street tires with no issues. This time I am thinking about 10" rims with a mini tub.
