Since the engine is back in place, I had a really tough time being able to START it. To this day, I still dont know what happened. When I was done last Thursday, I thought I was gonna be able to take it for a rip after dinner. Nope. It had different ideas. The engine was turning but just wouldnt start. I remember taking the dizzy out when I was painting and I remembered the EXACT position. I replaced it at this position. And while the dizzy was out, I didnt turn the engine by hand so it would have been all screwed up.
I was surprised that it didnt start. So I checked, and rechecked, and rechecked and replaced and replaced for at least 20times the dizzy @ TDC. It just wouldnt start. OK....What did I do wrong ? All the sensors, wiring harness, vacuums are connected, the sparkplugs are brand new gapped at .054 and the wires at the correct cylinders, starter is well hooked up., computer hooked in properly, etc. EVERYTHING was perfect and it still wouldnt start. Called my uncle mechanic and for 2 1/2 hours we werent able to start it properly. It did start for maybe 5 seconds but was running extremely sluggish and was "burping" the whole time.
The next day, I had my brother-in-law mechanic (knows his chit) so I was pretty confident it was gonna run within minutes. He was the one (and me) that did the engine last year with the AFR/cam/intake, etc. and the engine started on the first try. Same story with him. Rechecked everything again and again to make sure I didnt screw up the first 25times
and we failed. His theories:
* Either I jumped a tooth on the timing chain while hand cranking the engine if the chain was too lose
* Computer is fried or malfunctioning (remember I played in it removing the EEC tuner)
* Fuel is not coming to the rail strong enough (stock pump is back in which I DROPPED on the pavement and had a bad feeling about it)
* Injectors are blocked and not spraying
* Timing by dizzy is still off
* Stock H-Pipe which did sit outside for 6months and in a poor shed for 2 years might be jammed by something put there by animals
So you see I had a few options. On Saturday, I borrowed a good fuel gauge and hooked it up. I had 44psi when I had the key to ON and same pressure while cranking so the fuel pump wasnt the problem. After that, I unhooked the whole exhaust system to see if the H-Pipe was blocked and not letting the air out which would be chocking the engine. I was on the headers only and I still wouldnt start. I still play with the dizzy and nothing. I'm getting depressed. So it still could be pretty much the timing, or blocked injectors or jumped a tooth on the timing chain. On Sunday, I come home again and wanna try to start it. I take out the dizzy, have the engine on TDC as usual and replaced it properly like I ALWAYS did. To my surprise it started!
I was like WTF ? I didnt do anything different than the other times. So I hooked the exhaust back part by part to see if it was somehow jammed by something. The whole system is perfect. So since Sunday, the engine runs and idles really good. Put the timing @ 14* and that was it.
I washed the car after dinner. First time in almost 3 months. I just took it for a little ride about 45minutes ago. Man it is ever quite now. Barely hear it run on idle
I didnt shift hit/rev it passed 3500rpm. And I'm not for a while. I'm gonna give a chance to the engine. I dont know for how long it didnt really "run". I dont wanna blow it up. It kinda does feel good in a way to now have a stock stang, like Boss351 was saying. The only thing I think I'm gonna get is an o/r H or X pipe to at least sound good. Sorry for the long post folks. It's been a tough week.
