well yea.....i think the motor is done..... went to get on it tonight and when it hit 3000 rpm's lost all power then heard something clanking around in the engine! Im afraid to open up the motor to see what happend...it reallys sucks because i just turned 17 and have every single hard earned penny invested in this car, close to $12,000 in it. Thinking about just parting out the good engine/trans parts and then selling it as a rolling chassis if it really does have a blown motor.

I agree, buy a stock shortblock for 100 bucks and swap all your parts over. Hell you can find a full long block ready to drop in for a few hundred bucks.

well im still undecided on what to do....i do have a stock 5.0 HO motor in storage that i could swap my parts on to...but that will take alot of time and i hoping the same thing wont happen to this one.... I just think this car is a friggin money pit, first i blew the "built" AOD which i had to replace, now the motor goes..... how can you tell if a 5.0 engine is an explorer engine???
thanks

what other shortblock choices would i have besides a stock 5.0 and explorer 5.0??? i know i have basically no money right now, but i could just drive the beater for a while and save up for a shortblock that can handle some power..... what about a bored over 5.0? what about a 351? AFR 165's need to fit so what choices do i have? thanks!

the explorer engine wont handle any more abuse than a stock 5.0 block would. if you want to make serious power cheaply then I would save up for a 351.

well...scratch the idea of the 351 i dont have enough money, because i just read a guide about how to swap a 302-351...Much more money involved than i thought....i guess another stock 5.0 block will go in...i wonder why i blew the engine when its a 90,000 mile motor with h/c/i ?????
thanks

Either way no one is going to buy a 5.0 with a blown motor for anymore then 500 bucks. Atleast swap the motor the cheapest wasy possible, and then try to sell it for a few thousand. Our 5.0 engines are quite strong, they take LOTS of abuse, without any power adders. Id definatly find an explorer motor and swap it in, but the easiest thing to do would be to swap that motor you have in there. Should take a weekend if you have someone helping you and either one knows what their doing.

ahhhh thanks for all the help guys...well the car was definately warmed up so who knows what happend. But i do have good news..i went down to the storage unit and found the stock 5.0 i have..It doesnt say H.O on the intake manifold so would that be out of an explorer then? So i guess i will just swap all my goodies onto the other block and throw in that engine. I hope other parts werent damaged like the heads etc.
thanks

not necessarily, lots of vehicles came with the 5.0.

well i had my dad take a look at it and he emediatly said it was a rod knocking and that it would be easiest to just have it rebuilt over the winter. This means its time to build it so it can hold boost for next year :nice:
thanks
