WOW was it a fun time

I took my GT which was stock except for Bridgestone potenza's and 13" cobra brakes and had a blast!!

It was my first time and i'm hooked!! I can't wait to go again. More excitement than drag racing!

I want to do it in my 5.0 which is more set up to handle/brake than the GT which is just a nice weekend cruiser to me.

I took a few spins in my co-workers 510rwHP '04 Cobra with coil-overs and race rubber and that thing was unbeleiveable. I never thought a Mustang could turn like that. He could just be headed for a 90 degree turn at 45-55MPH and just turn the wheel and we are speeding out of the corner before i even know it. It was a workout just to hang on in his car!!

I dont think i ever want to drag race again

The saying goes something like, why spend seconds drag racing when you can spend minutes road racing...or something.

When it comes down to it, you spend more time waiting for a pass in the staging lanes than you do actually racing. Road racing and autox is where it's at!

I warn you though, if you go roadracing in a fox with stock brakes... after 3 or so laps of even a short course your rear drums will melt and become completely useless. I found that out this summer and it was a pretty hairy experience. lol, luckily I have drilled/slotted rotors up front with Hawk HPS pads which handle the heat 100x better than the rear brakes so I still had some stopping power.

I wouldn't eveb bother with stock brakes. This was a very long setup. It was an old airport so it spanned about 3 runways. Brakes played a huge role. I had the 13" Cobra brakes and at the end of the run they were mighty toasty, but i never got any fade from them.

When it comes to road racing and autox, braking is more important than HP if you ask me. HP usually doesn't fade during a race like brakes do.

There actually was a 5.0 LX convertible there racing. Was pretty competitive too.

Granted though, he had 5-lug cobra brakes and suspension work done

One of my friends does Auto-Cross in his Shelby Cobra, and he's supposed to come give me a ride in it.

I made the switch this year. I fell in love with autox'ing at my first event. Since this is my first year and I'm in street mod, I'm not really competitive. I'm installing cobra brakes, rebuilding my rear and I just switched my control arms to MM lowers, FRPP uppers in anticipation of my next event next weekend.

Next year, I'll have the front and rear cobra brakes and maybe a panhard bar and torque arm (along with struts/springs/shocks) so I can spend some time completing HPDE's and such. I'm also saving up for an Evo School.

I have taken a big, big hit of the track pipe and am addicted.

definately

I ran a few times in my 99 Cobra. Most fun I ever had in that car.

I plan on running this one eventually, but not till after I get my subframes welded in and do the brakes.

I'm much more interested in road course racing than autox....something about a parking lot full of cones isn't as appealing to me as an actual road course....but i know a lot of that is about practicality and the lack of available road courses out there.

Actually, a lot of road racers got started in autocross. Autocross is a great way to learn car control. Also, a lot of people prefer autocross because of the multiple turns. Some people get bored on the straights (or so I'm told--I'll find out next season).

The thing i don't like about autox is that you don't get to use but maybe 1st and second....usually the course is pretty tight and you spend a lot of time in a single gear. I like the straights for opening up and hitting triple digit speeds. The amount of turns just depends on the course. Take a track like Laguna Seca for example....you won't get bored there

My all time racing dream, aside from driving an F1 car, would be to make a few laps around the Nurburgring in Germany. Now THAT is a racetrack

And this is the reason why I dumped my 5.0L:

Me beating my RX-7 like it owes me money.

Autocross is 100x the fun.

I guess here's good reason why you shouldn't do it on stock Fox brakes. I got these hot enough to boil the high-temp paint i used for the center of the rotors

They never faded though
